Sapmi Nature Camp

Authentic Sami Experience

Located in the heart of the Laponia World Heritage site in Swedish Lapland, Sapmi Nature Camp not only provides a wonderful small-scale resort to enjoy great hospitality, home-cooked cuisine and a unique inclusive experience, but it also gives you a first hand insight about the culture, history and traditions of the Sami people who have graced these lands for many generations. It offers a very personal stay, spending time with your host Lennart Pittja who is happy to share his knowledge about Sami life - both past and present.

Sleep Well

Accommodation at the camp is based on Sami glamping, with two standard lavvu (teepee tents) and two deluxe lavvo, providing essentials for a comfy stay. The standard lavvus are basic, furnished with double beds with duvets and sleeping bags for that extra warmth, stoves to heat up the tents and chairs for relaxing. These tents share facilities such as a shower, sauna and incineration toilet in a separate log building within the small camp. The deluxe lavvu, designed exclusively for the camp, offers a higher level of comfort and furnishings with timber walls up to 2 metres high providing extra warmth and cosiness. With a Scandinavian design, they are equipped with an en suite incineration toilet and small sink, an automatic wood heater ensuring the lavvu are kept warm at all times and comfortable seating.

In either accommodation your host will help with starting fires and managing the heating. There is no running water at the camp, but each deluxe lavvu and the service building have a water container and basin for washing hands.

Eat Well

The food and the meals are prepared and served by your host at the camp in the rustic communal dining room. Guests are welcome to help in the food preparation. Meals and ingredients are based on wholesome Sami cuisine where fish, reindeer and moose take centre stage with berries and herbs supplementing the food. There is a set menu in the evening with lunches often served outdoors, cooked over the open fire.

Play Well

During your time at the camp you can enjoy self-guided experiences using snowshoes and nordic skis that are included in your stay. You will receive a short introduction on using the equipment, then head out on the prepared trails close to the camp, exploring the nature around you. There are also optional guided activities which are available at a supplement, including visiting the reindeer, nature trek on skis, ice fishing and a moose and wildlife safari. Experiencing the northern lights is on most people’s bucket list - here at the camp is a great place with no artificial light pollution to spoil the view.

Be Well

The traditional way to shower in the nordics has been to take a sauna. At the camp they like to follow tradition in the lovely sauna located in a secluded spot by the river. Private use of the sauna is included on one night for guests staying in the deluxe lavvu. Towels and soaps are provided.
