WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

Days 1-2:

On arrival at Bergen Airport there are two options to the city centre using public transport. Either take the Flybussen shuttle bus, the journey takes 25 minutes and stops at six locations in the city. Tickets can be pre-booked online or on board the bus. There is also the Bergen light railway, the cheapest option, taking you from the airport to the city in 45 minutes. Then make your way to the hotel. Alternatively, a taxi can be taken directly to your hotel.

Bergen is a lovely small city to explore on foot. Not to be missed are “Fisketorget” the fish market, Bryggen - on the UNESCO World Heritage List for it’s Hanseatic Wharf, quaint cobbled shopping streets, the Aquarium and the Floibanen funicular railway taking you to Mount Fløyen for amazing views over the city. Particularly spectacular at sunset!

Bergen Card The Bergen Card allows you free access or discounted tickets to many attractions; free travel on buses and the Bergen Light Railway and discounts at many shops, restaurants and cafes. It is valid on the Light rail from the airport so we recommend purchasing this in advance. Please speak to one of our team who can arrange this for you.

Days 3-7:

Leaving Bergen, the Express boat departs from the harbour area in the morning at 08.00, but it is well worth the early start. On board, you can enjoy wonderful views through the panoramic windows, or go out on the large sun deck for an invigorating experience. The journey takes you up the coastline, passing many islands and stopping at several locations heading along the famous Sognefjord. The Fjord cruise is a fantastic experience and an amazing way to view the heart of the fjord region, finally arriving at the small village of Flam at 13.40, where you will collect the rental car.

Explore Sognefjord

After collecting your rental car, you will embark on a self-drive adventure - exploring and visiting the many wonderful attractions and villages in the region, with the opportunity to take part in memorable activities along the way.

Our Sales team will be happy to discuss your bespoke arrangements and recommend places of interest. Popular villages to visit in the Sognefjord region include Balestrand, Flam, Sogndal, Laerdal, Aurland, Leikanger, Kaupanger, Solvorn and Vik.

Days 3-7:

As well as the Fjord villages - Sognefjord is home to several attractions, sightseeing opportunities and exciting activities which include 3 national parks, including mainland Europe’s largest glacier Jostedalsbreen; Norway’s highest waterfall ‘Vettisfossen’; many iconic hikes with amazing fjord views; UNESCO Fjord landscape - Naeroyfjord; local gastronomy, farm visits and cider tasting; Fjord cruises; spectacular views from Stegastein viewpoint; RIB Safaris and kayaking tours; glacier hikes and visiting museums for art, culture, history, vikings and the five Stave Churches in the area.

There are so many things to do, you may wish to extend your stay on ‘The King of the Fjords’.

Amazing Accommodation

An important part of any holiday is finding the right accommodation that suits your personal requirements. There are many options to choose from, whether your preference is a fjord-side boutique hotel, a mountain hotel, modern apartment, remote cabin with a view, family-run guesthouse, or a historical and traditional hotel. We would be delighted to discuss the different options and find your perfect place to stay. In order to enjoy the different parts of the Sognefjord, we recommend you stay in several locations and use them as a base to explore the area.

Day 8:

The last leg of this journey takes you to Flåm. After returning the rental car you will experience the famous Flamsbana train. The Flåm Railway has been described as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world, taking you from the village to mountain station Myrdal. The train journey takes approximately 1 hour, with spectacular scenery along the way. We highly recommend booking the train ticket in advance, which we can do for you.

From Myrdal, sit back and enjoy the scenery across the ‘Roof of Norway’. You have the choice of travelling to either Bergen or Oslo, where you can extend your stay in Norway or make your way to the airport for the onward flight connection.
