WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

DAY 1:

You’ll be met at Keflavik Airport before midday and start your journey with a refreshing dip in the Blue Lagoon. After your session in the mineral rich waters, you’ll continue onwards to Kjóastdir Farm where your hosts Hjalti and Åsa will greet you. After a hearty home-cooked dinner, you’ll have the chance to look to the skies for first possible sightings of the Aurora Borealis.

DAY 2:

Your hosts will begin today by introducing you to the Icelandic horses and its special gaits. You’ll get to know the special tölt – a trot specific to the Icelandic Horse. It is a smooth four-beat gait in which the horse’s hind legs should move well under the body and carry more of the weight on the hind part, allowing the front to rise and be free and loose.

Each rider will be matched with a suitable horse. Your first ride will start out along trails through birch forests in the Haukadalur valley. You’ll get to know the horses and enjoy a relaxed day of riding through a stunning scenery of mountains, valleys and the glacier-fed river Hvíta. You’ll return to the farm in the evening and the opportunity for another search for the Aurora.

DAY 3:

Today you’ll set off on horseback towards the Brúarhlöd canyon where milky, glacier water passes through intriguing rock formations. You’ll follow the ever deepening canyon to the impressive Gulfoss waterfall where you’ll tie up the horses and admire the views. After a relaxing break in Gulfoss you’ll follow the Kjölur highland trail before returning to the farm. In the late afternoon you’ll bid farewell to your hosts and horses, and drive onwards to Reykjavik. You’ll have the evening free to explore the city (dinner not included).

Overnight in Reykjavik.
