A Room in the Woods: Landscape hotel in the Geirangerfjord

When humans and Mother Nature think alike, extraordinary things can happen. This is one such location and experience. You’ll not just come close to nature but you’ll be positively living within it at this stunning landscape hotel. Your ‘neighbour’ will be a bird or a tree as the rooms have all been assembled individually and placed carefully within the landscape to provide the best view on nature as possible in the least visible way from the outside. And the views change all the time – throughout the day, throughout the year. It’s a true hideaway. But one which also invites you to understand and explore the surroundings too. We offer skiing in the winter, walking and rafting in the summer, and mind and body refreshment in the sauna all year round.

Itinerary:

This is a tailor made experience, and you can choose from the elements below to create your ideal retreat in the woods. We offer a three night package which includes accommodation at the Landscape Hotel, full board, spa/sauna and car hire for three days. The trip can also be tailored as part of a longer fjord holiday.  Just call us to talk it through.

Sleeping

The architect behind this extraordinary hotel realised that the more the guests could see nature, the better they good enjoy it at all moments. So he designed huge glass frontages that look out to the valley and ravine. Eames chairs were then added to give guests a comfortable place to relax and soak in the views.

Eating

Knut, your host, believes in sourcing food from the surrounding landscapes. He has a kitchen complete with his trusted chefs who can be on hand as much or as little as you wish to cook fantastic meals to your liking. In the main farm buildings (the converted cow shed, to be precise), there is a small restaurant to share meals together. We can also organise breakfast hampers delivered directly to your room.

Get to know the surrounding farmstead

Along with his achitect, Knut has not only built one of Europe’s most original concept hotels, but has done so with respect for the farm and its past. While the function of the farm has changed, its history is celebrated dating as far back as the 16th Century. Legend also has it that the water flowing from the ancient river nearby will aid regeneration of health and youthful vigour.

Spa

The sauna is a staple part of Norwegian hospitality. But we think this one’s extra special. Like the rooms, it’s tucked away in the landscape and features an outside tub.

Skiing

We positively urge you to come here in the winter. A wonderland it is and skiing the perfect untouched snow is heaven. There are tracks for cross-country skiing as well as nearby resorts and off-piste hills. Guides can be arranged as well as transfers to your mountain.

Walking and climbing

The surrounding valley and the Geirangerfjord both have endless possibilities for walking and climbing. We’ll provide all the information you need to get to know this wild corner of Norway which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rafting If the river below tempts you, the thrill of travelling along it in a raft will certainly please. We’ll organise guides and equipment for you. Fishing and hunting In season you can go grouse hunting and fish for salmon in the Valldøla and for trout in the mountain lakes and streams.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.
