Island Hideaway

Manshausen Sea Cabin Northern Lights Holiday

Cross the Arctic Circle to the city of Bodø where a coastal Northern Lights holiday awaits. You’ll stay on a tiny island called Manshausen - once part of a busy trading post en route to the Lofoten Islands and today owned by one of Norway's pre-eminent explorers. Built on ancient jetties, the sea cabins are cantilevered over the water providing a panoramic glass frontage over the scenic view. After dark, your sea cabin is a glorious retreat to look out for appearances of the Aurora from the comfort of your bed or chair. By day enjoy coastline walks admiring the clear blue sea, pristine beaches and craggy mountain scenery.

DAY 1:

Arrival to Bodo by train from Oslo or flight (not included). Transfer to your city centre accommodation and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

In the evening, join a Northern Lights tour to Ausvika Beach where, if you’re lucky you may see the dance of the Aurora Borealis away from the city lights whilst enjoying a warming cup of mulled wine around the open fire.

DAY 2:

After breakfast, enjoy the day at leisure in Bodo with our recommendations for places to visit and eat. We can also arrange day trips for you.

Visit Saltstraumen, the world’s strongest maelstrom where every six hours, almost 400 million cubic metres of water pass through a narrow strait at high speed. The resulting tidal current is a sight to behold whether you’re an onlooker by boat or at the shore.

In the evening, you’ll depart on the ferry to Nordskot - a journey of 1.5 hours arriving to the tiny fishing village before 7pm where your host will await your arrival. Your accommodation is on Manshausen - a tiny island off the coast of Nordskot and a short transfer on your host’s boat.

Then it’s time to relax in your sea cabin, ready for an evening of sky gazing over the water and mountains beyond.

DAY 3:

Today is yours at leisure. Enjoy walks along the beach or perhaps you’d like a more adventure-filled day. We can arrange guided activities for you including: sea-kayaking, fishing, diving, snorkelling, skiing (back-country), snow shoeing and hiking depending on the season and snow fall. The nearby islands offer fantastic hiking terrain.

After dark, relax in your cabin or the hot tub (shared) and wait to see if the Northern Lights appear.

DAY 4:

After breakfast, board the ferry for your return to Bodo.

If you’re not ready to leave, we can arrange extra nights and excursions. Or perhaps combine this stay with a visit to another Arctic location by boarding the Northbound Hurtigruten ship to the Lofoten Islands or Tromso.
