On arrival at Svalbard airport, Longyearbyen, take the airport shuttle bus to the city centre, just a few minutes journey time (payable locally) and alight at Basecamp Hotel - a rustic yet modern take on the trapper’s traditional dwelling built from driftwood. Settle in to the accommodation and take time to explore this unique Arctic city, with several cosy cafés and bars to stop and have a drink. In the evening the hotel receptionist will be happy to recommend and reserve a table at one of the restaurants nearby.

Staying at: Basecamp Hotel

Day 2:

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. At 10am you are collected by the guide for the start of the snowmobile adventure, and receive information about the coming trip with possible routes depending on the conditions and the equipment needed. You will be provided with warm clothing and boots, then head to the snowmobiles. The trip is based on two people sharing a snowmobile, or for a small supplement you can drive your own for the entire trip.

After a short lesson with instructions and safety information, you will head out into the wilderness towards Kapp Line. Along the way you’ll make a number of stops to delve into the nature and history of Spitsbergen, passing glaciers, snow-covered mountains and frozen fjords, stopping for lunch to enjoy the vast landscape and arctic silence. This is perfect snowmobiling territory, with flat plateaus and amazing scenery passing you by.

In the afternoon you will reach your destination at Isfjord Radio Hotel. This is a very special place - a remote boutique hotel you wouldn’t expect to find in the middle of the vast arctic wilderness over 90km from any civilisation. Spend time relaxing in the lounge before a delicious arctic inspired menu, and afterwards you can try the hot sauna to warm you up. A wonderful way to finish an epic day of adventure! Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 3:

After a delicious breakfast, don the winter clothing again and get prepared for another adventure on the snowmobiles, heading into the beautiful surroundings of Spitsbergen. The guide will choose the day’s route depending on the weather and snow conditions, perhaps driving south towards Fritjof glacier, keeping watch for the King of the Arctic, the polar bear which is quite often seen in this area. An expedition lunch is taken on route, returning back to Isfjord Radio in the afternoon. Time to relax at the hotel before the evening meal. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 4:

Enjoy a substantial breakfast before your last day on this snowmobile adventure, heading past the Russian Mining town Barentsburg, home to about 300 people. Lunch will be provided on the way, and your last chance to marvel at the amazing landscape before arriving in the afternoon at Longyearbyen, where you will stay for 2 nights at Basecamp hotel. The evenings are free for you to choose one of the restaurants for your evening meal. Breakfast and lunch is included.

Day 5:

The day is free to relax after the wilderness adventure. For the more active, the light winter season is a fantastic period to spend time taking part in optional activities which are available to pre-book in advance. Swap horsepower for dog power and embark on either a half-day or full day dog-sledding trip, mushing your own team of huskies across the beautiful landscapes in Svalbard. Perhaps join a snowcat tour in the surrounding area, enjoying the panoramic views of Longyearbyen and the mountains. Take a hike to the Ice Caves, a challenging walk up to the glacier and enter the underground world of grottos carved out by the melting water. There are also sightseeing trips around the town, a visit to Mine 3 or enjoy a beer tasting session at Svalbard Brewery.

Day 6:

After breakfast there may be time to explore the city, we recommend a visit to the Svalbard Museum before joining the airport shuttle bus back to the airport for your onward flight. The shuttle bus stops at the hotel approximately 2 hours before flight departures, but we recommend you check the timings with the hotel.
