ITINERARY

WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

DAY 1:

Arrival to the Lofoten Islands. Transfer to your Rorbu – a traditional fisherman’s cabin, typical of the Lofoten Islands.

DAY 2:

After breakfast, enjoy the day at your own pace with our recommendations for activities and sites to visit.

DAY 3:

After breakfast you will meet your kayak instructor. After introductions and a snack you will take a look at the maps and locate the various trips and treks you will enjoy during your adventure together. You'll paddle to the starting point, while becoming accustomed to the sea-kayaks. For participants with little or no paddling experience you’ll cover the basics of safe and fun sea kayaking. This includes kayak anatomy, getting in and out, basic paddling strokes, wet-exits, basic rescue techniques, injury prevention and so on. You will then start paddling out on your adventure.

You will have a rest every 2-3 hours with the chance to have a snack. In the afternoon you'll arrive at the camp, put up your tents and get ready for the night. Then you will cook your evening meal together.

If the weather permits you may take a trip to the famous Trollfjord. This is where the historic battle over cod fishing rights took place in 1890. The fjord cuts deep into the mountains and is a magnificent place to visit.

DAY 4:

After a Norwegian breakfast you'll continue the trip travelling eastwards to an archipelago with around 200 small islands. The route you choose will show you small fishing and Arctic farming communities, steep cliffs and fantastic white beaches. The camp today will depend on the weather again! Some of the islands are better in specific wind directions and the weather helps us to decide where to set up camp.

DAY 5:

Today you will explore the archipelago with its seals, porpoises, otters and bird life. This afternoon you will have the chance to do a guided hike up to a mountain that provides a near 360° view.

DAY 6:

The paddle back to your finishing point takes you out of the fjord and back into the sound of Raftsund with its majestic mountains. You will have the chance to experience fish farming and may be even taste the local produce at one of the farms you pass by.

In the afternoon you return to Svolvær where you will spend a final night in the hotel.

DAY 7:

Today you’ll transfer to the airport for your flight to Bodø and onward connections. Alternatively we can arrange additional nights and activities for you to extend your stay.

We're able to tailor this itinerary to suit you which means that you can add additional activities such as whale-watching, walking, sight-seeing and cycling as well as extend your stay with additional nights to enjoy the many villages and beaches of the Lofoten Islands.

About your guides
All the guides are local to the Lofoten islands meaning that their knowledge and skills will be paramount to your experience. They have trained to a high level having completed the qualifications required to escort groups of kayakers on the sea. There will be one guide to six kayakers. The minimum age for participation on this trip is 13 years.

The climate and weather
You will need to come prepared for the best and the worst weather conditions and you may experience extremes during your trip. The coastal weather of Arctic Norway can bring strong winds and rain. Here the average temperatures range between the low 5°C to 30°C. At times, the elements can prohibit us from paddling, but not from enjoying these spectacular places. Good rain gear and footwear will also enable us to explore the mountains, coast and villages by foot.
