Situated in the heart of Finnish Lapland with a winter wonderland setting and perfect for a magical northern lights holiday - Nivunki Village is surrounded by untouched wilderness and away from light pollution allowing optimum chances to witness the aurora. The privately owned property sits next to Lake Nivunkijarvi, which freezes in the winter and provides a playground for thrilling winter activities. The land is also home to a herd of reindeer who roam in the area and you’re sure to meet during your stay.

Our package includes accommodation in Glass Kota’s, with heated windows facing the dark skies for when the aurora makes an appearance, as well as gourmet cuisine using locally sourced ingredients and a selection of authentic winter activities.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

Day 1:

Flights operate from London via Helsinki, where we highly recommend a short visit before heading north to the arctic region. On arrival at Kittila, you will be met and transferred to Nivunki Village, a journey time of 50 minutes.

On checking in, you will receive your warm winter clothing and in the evening, enjoy a delicious 3-course meal created from locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast and dinner is included during your stay. Some lunches may be included on the activities, otherwise it can be purchased at the restaurant if required.

Days 2-4:

With the untouched wilderness as the backdrop, our 4 night package includes 4 guided activities. All the activities are in small groups of no more than 8 guests and led by experienced local guides, happy to share their knowledge of the area. The exact schedule for the different activities will be confirmed locally.

Half-day Husky Safari

After a short transfer to the husky kennels, you’ll meet the experienced guide and eager huskies, ready to take you on an arctic adventure. Before heading off, you’ll receive safety instructions and learn how to handle your own team of huskies, then once ready, you’ll witness the power of these amazing arctic dogs. Driving in pairs, one mushing the team and one as a passenger in the sled they lead you along the snowy trails. Halfway through the trip, you’ll stop at a Lappish hut for some snacks and hot drinks, changing drivers, before the safari comes to an end back at the husky farm leaving you with everlasting memories.

Reindeer Ride in the Wilderness

Nivunki Village is home to about 100 reindeer - you’ll get the chance to get close to these lovely arctic animals and learn from the knowledgeable guides about how the reindeer play an important part in this region and about the livelihoods and ancient traditions of the Sami people. You will then take a short reindeer ride, where the silence of the wilderness is broken only by the soft thudding of reindeer hooves.

Days 2-4:

Northern Lights Snowmobile tour to Fell Sarkitunturi

After receiving safety information and driving instructions, you’ll embark on a snowmobile safari to Fell Sarkitunturi, far away from any artificial lights and an ideal place to search for the northern lights. During the tour you will stop at a traditional kota hut for a break to warm up and enjoy local treats and hot drinks. Driving in pairs, you’ll get a chance to swap drivers and enjoy pure nature under the dark arctic sky.

Aurora Trek in Nivunki

Inhale pure air and listen to nature’s silence on an evening snowshoe trek into the arctic wilderness, strolling through the surroundings of Lake Nivunkijarvi in search of the aurora. During the trek you’ll stop for hot beverages, preparing you to continue the journey back to the village.

No trip to Finland is complete without spending time in the most important room, the sauna, the hub of any winter resort. A separate log cabin houses the small lounge area and sauna which look out to the frozen lake through the panoramic window. And if you dare, take a dip in the icy lake and feel the healing energy of mother nature. The sauna is available to use for guests between 17.00 and 21.00 each day, with other times available to book for private use.

In between the active pursuits, sauna time and enjoying the delicious meals, the resort also offers complimentary use of snowshoes, giving guests the freedom to explore the snowy surroundings whenever desired, and find a secluded spot to watch the northern lights should they make an appearance.

Day 5:

After breakfast, get ready for the return transfer to the airport and onward journey home.

From £2,097 per person (excluding flights), based on two adults sharing a Glass Kota double room on half-board basis with return transfers between Kittila Airport and Nivunki Village, warm winter clothing and activities as described.
