Unique Places to Stay in Swedish Lapland: Experience the Arctic Differently

When I was invited to travel to Swedish Lapland, I knew I would be staying in some special places. But nothing quite prepared me for what lay ahead. These unique properties exceeded every expectation, alongside the landscape, hospitality, and cuisine. Each offers something slightly different, making for a perfect multi-centre trip. This is my account of unique places to stay in Swedish Lapland during the winter, with some also open in summer, based on my experiences at the start of the 2025/26 season.

Why Choose Somewhere Unique in Swedish Lapland

In Swedish Lapland, where the landscape is as striking as it is remote, your accommodation is more than just a place to sleep, it’s part of the experience. The design, location, and setting of each property shape how you interact with the Arctic environment. I can vouch that the quiet of snow-covered forests is the loudest silence you will ever experience. With unobstructed views of the Northern Lights dancing overhead, these stays offer a rare access to nature and the unique conditions of the far north. Choosing a distinctive place to stay can transform a simple trip into an unforgettable Arctic adventure.

Arctic Bath – Frozen Spa in Swedish Lapland

We will start in the small village of Harads, approximately 30 miles from the Arctic Circle. Here you will find the ultimate spa retreat. Arctic Bath offers somewhere to stay, both on and off the water. The Water Cabins either float in summer or freeze into the Lule River in winter, while the Land and Suite Cabins sit back on dry land. Both offer beautiful views of the river, with additional sleeping space in the Land Suites for families. Guests can enjoy outdoor hot baths, saunas, and relaxation areas while taking in the surrounding pine forests and frozen river.

I visited Arctic Bath on the most wonderful early morning. With the sun rising in the distance, this threw the entire frozen surface under a bright telescope. The ice crystals were beautiful! It has been designed to blend with its environment. Arctic Bath is ideal for anyone looking for unusual places to stay in Sweden that offer both comfort and ultimate relaxation. Many of these spa and wellness experiences are also included within the Luxury Arctic Retreat and Spa itinerary, which centres around a stay at Arctic Bath as part of a wider journey through Swedish Lapland. In winter, it provides a peaceful setting for Northern Lights viewing, making it a standout option among Arctic hotels in Sweden.

Treehotel – Experience the Arctic from the Tree Tops

You only need to open a Scandinavian Architecture magazine to be familiar with this particular property. Now with eight individually designed treehouses, the founders original concept for the Treehotel was to keep the charm and elegance of a simpler time, using food that was in season and using natural, local materials to build the rooms.

When arriving at TreeHotel, you will first reach the guest house which is where activities start from and meals take place. It is then a 10-15 minute walk through the pine trees and deep snow during the winter. The eight rooms are dotted around the forest; Mirrorcube, Biosphere, Bird’s Nest, The Cabin, 7th Room, UFO, Dragonfly and Blue Cone. While a Birds Nest (yes – a human sized birds nest) feels well suited for a forest location, a UFO still doesn’t feel out of place and each of the rooms work together to compliment the forest. Mirrorcube, literally blends in, with snow and trees reflected in every square inch.

I stayed in Dragonfly, which is a two bedroom cabin, with bathroom, family seating area and accessed by a metal slope. Sleeping with the blinds up, with the sunrise over the tree tops acting as my alarm, it was an experience I will never forget. Whichever room you stay in, a stay at the Treehotel is a unique experience in Swedish Lapland. For travellers interested in seeing more of the region while staying in these remarkable accommodations, the Highlights of Swedish Lapland tour combines visits to properties such as the Treehotel with winter activities across the Arctic landscape.

Aurora Safari Camp – Tipi or Glass Cone Rooms

Aurora Safari Camp is another standout option among unique places to stay in Swedish Lapland. Set on the banks of Råne River, this small-scale camp offers either heated tipis or a glass cone with a full view of the night sky. The camp’s design prioritises simplicity and connection to the outdoors, while still offering comfort and relaxation. Guests can enjoy unobstructed views of the Northern Lights, and if you are as lucky as me, from the comfort of a cosy bed in a glass cone, perched at the top of the camp, with the lights dancing overhead.

With only seven rooms, the site feels very private and secluded, but still with all the facilities and hospitality I had become accustomed to in Swedish Lapland. You will find the sauna and plunge pool by striding out across the frozen lake, which your hosts will be all too keen to prepare for you. To put it bluntly, your hosts will stop at nothing to ensure you have an excellent experience here, and that is true to say of most of the Swedes in Lapland.

This experience at Aurora Safari Camp can also be built into a wider itinerary, such as the Luxury Glamping in Swedish Lapland: Adventure, Stay & Sauna journey. This includes time in both the tipis and glass cones, with Arctic activities like snowmobiling, husky sledding, and access to the lakeside sauna, creating a well-rounded stay in this remote part of Swedish Lapland.

Logger’s Lodge – Wilderness Stay in Swedish Lapland

Last but by no means least, is the private luxury log cabin of Logger’s Lodge. Guests will be greeted by Eric and Jörgen, who still stay close throughout your stay to create the perfect experience, but wish to give guests their privacy, in perfect reflection of the setting. They always seem to be one step ahead, knowing what their clients want before they do.

Set deep in the forest, this is one of the most secluded and unique places to stay in Swedish Lapland. The cabin itself is warm and traditional in style, with large windows looking out over the surrounding wilderness and a roaring fireplace at the end of the bed. Guests will also have use of a private sauna, and glass pod in case which can sleep two further guests if a family was to stay here, all within a few steps of the main lodge.

What sets Logger’s Lodge apart is the balance between comfort and complete immersion in nature. With just one cabin, the experience is entirely private, making it ideal for those looking for unusual places to stay in Sweden that feel truly off-grid. It offers a very different pace to some of the more design-led stays, and brings you closer to the raw beauty of Swedish Lapland. Our Luxury Winter Break in Loggers Lodge  centres the lodge as your base for a relaxed yet immersive Arctic experience complete with guided excursions and tailored winter activities. This is a perfect short break or as part of a longer Swedish itinerary.
