Upon arrival in Whitehorse, collect your rental car and check in at your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, take the opportunity to explore Yukon’s capital, a city shaped by the Klondike Gold Rush and Indigenous cultures.
Visit the SS Klondike, a historic sternwheeler that once carried goods and passengers along the Yukon River. Stop by the Log Skyscraper and the Old Log Church Museum to glimpse Whitehorse’s unique architectural history. Drive out to Miles Canyon, where the Yukon River cuts through striking basalt cliffs. Walk across the suspension bridge and hike the scenic trail to Canyon City, a former gold rush settlement with interpretive signs sharing its history.
In the evening, dine at one of Whitehorse’s cosy local restaurants before resting up for your adventure ahead.
Start the day with a guided canoe trip on the Yukon River, following the same waterways that gold prospectors once navigated. This four-hour journey takes you from Whitehorse to the confluence of the Takhini River, offering peaceful wilderness views and a chance to spot bald eagles perched on bluffs along the riverbanks. A stop is made along the way for a snack before continuing downstream.
In the afternoon, take a short scenic drive south to the Tagish region, where you'll settle into your remote wilderness lodge. Spend the evening relaxing by the lake or enjoying the peaceful surroundings
Wake up to the fresh mountain air and prepare for a thrilling morning in the wild. A guided ATV tour will take you through forested trails and open landscapes, with stunning views of the Coast Mountains stretching into Alaska. This two-hour adventure offers the chance to spot wildlife along the route and experience the untouched wilderness of the Yukon.
The rest of the day is yours to unwind at your lodge. Take a walk along the lakeshore, rent a kayak, or simply relax in nature.
After breakfast, drive north towards Haines Junction, the gateway to Kluane National Park and Reserve. Along the way, take in towering mountain peaks and endless wilderness.
Upon arrival, visit the Kluane National Park and Thechàl Dhâl Visitor Centre to learn about the park’s glaciers, wildlife, and cultural significance to the First Nations peoples. In the afternoon, set out on a half-day guided hike into the St. Elias Mountain Range. Covering 22,000 square kilometres, this vast wilderness offers countless hiking opportunities. Your guide will select a route based on the weather, conditions, and wildlife activity, leading you through hidden valleys, alpine meadows, or remote trails while sharing insights into the region’s unique ecology and geology.
In the evening, return to your lodge in Haines Junction and enjoy a quiet night in nature.
Kluane National Park is part of the largest internationally protected area in the world, spanning Alaska, British Columbia, and the Yukon. This is a day to fully immerse yourself in the wild landscapes of the park.
A 4x4 wilderness jeep tour will take you deep into the Alsek Valley along a rugged 15-kilometre trail. Crossing creeks, riverbeds, and alluvial fans, the journey is anything but smooth, but the stunning scenery makes it all worthwhile. Along the way, you’ll stop to explore abandoned remnants of past explorations, including the remains of an old boat, and learn about the history of the valley.
For those seeking additional adventure, consider an afternoon rafting excursion on the Dezadeash River. This gentle, family-friendly rafting trip offers a unique way to view wildlife and take in breathtaking mountain scenery. Alternatively, take to the skies with a glacier flightseeing experience. Departing from Silver City, this 90-minute flight takes you over the dramatic peaks of the St. Elias Mountains, including Mt. Logan, Canada’s highest peak. With an expert pilot providing commentary, you’ll fly past towering icefields and glaciers before touching down for an unforgettable landing.
After a full day of adventure, return to your lodge for another peaceful night in the Yukon wilderness.
This day is left open for you to enjoy more of Kluane’s remote wilderness at your own pace. Hike to Sheep Mountain, where Dall sheep can often be spotted grazing on the steep slopes, or embark on a guided fishing trip to a pristine glacier-fed lake. For those looking to simply relax, take a slow morning enjoying the views before heading out for a leisurely drive to scenic viewpoints in the park.
End the day with a final evening in Haines Junction, enjoying the tranquillity of the Yukon.
After breakfast, begin the scenic drive back to Whitehorse. Along the way, stop for any last-minute sightseeing or pick up a few local souvenirs.
Upon arrival, return your rental car and transfer to Whitehorse Airport for your flight home.
