A transfer at 15.30 from Alta City or the Airport takes you to Holmen Husky Lodge, just 10 minutes away. On arrival you will be shown around the Lodge and facilities before enjoying a 2-course dinner in the cosy Barn Restaurant. We’d be happy to check your travel options to Alta in order to meet the transfer departure time.
In the evening, you’ll head out in a minivan for a Northern Light chase. The guide will check the forecast and take you to some remote locations in search of clear skies and the best chances to witness this natural phenomenon.
Accommodation is based in the Forest Suites at the lodge, providing rustic luxury with modern comforts. These large individual cabins have a separate living room with a 5-metre tall window offering a panoramic view of the untouched forest outside. The upstairs bedroom also boasts a large window, perfect for admiring the stars or catching a glimpse of the northern lights. With just seven suites at the lodge, you can be sure of an intimate and engaging stay.
After breakfast you’ll be shown around the kennels and receive warm winter clothing before learning how to handle your own dog-sled team. Driving in pairs, you’ll head along the snowy tracks and on the frozen Alta River, swapping drivers on route. Afterwards, warm up with hot drinks and lunch back at the Lodge. The Husky Safari lasts 2.5 hours, but it is also possible to upgrade the tour to a longer 5 hour safari for an additional supplement.
The afternoon is free for you to relax and enjoy the arctic setting. However, if you wish to venture out on another dog-sledding adventure, there is also an afternoon tour which can be added to the package for an additional charge. In the evening, enjoy a 2-course dinner and later, you have the chance to use the sauna and outside jacuzzi, keeping a look out for the aurora while having a soak. Please note, we recommend pre-booking your preferred time slot, either for a morning refresher, a midday break or an evening relaxing.
After a hearty breakfast, you are transferred on the next leg of your journey, to Sorrisniva Igloo hotel. You will be shown the facilities before taking part in your next mini adventure, Reindeer and Sami Experience. This will give you a peek into the Sami lifestyle and introduces you to some of their traditions, getting a chance to race along the frozen Alta River on a sled being pulled by a reindeer.
Back at the hotel, a 2-course lunch is served in the Lavvu Restaurant and in the afternoon, put your creative hat on and try Ice Sculpting, a lovely and immersive way to turn a block of ice into a masterpiece. In the evening enjoy a 3-course a la carte meal in the restaurant before your overnight stay in the Igloo Hotel. The guides will provide extra warm sleeping bags and information on how best to ‘sleep on ice’ in one of the Ice rooms.
Having seen the amazing ice sculptures in the Igloo Hotel, why not work with one of our local ice artisans to create your own. Your expert ice artisan will explain the methodology and tools used in carving a block of ice into an ice sculpture, and then provide you with hands on guidance as to you do it yourself. Enjoy a celebratory ice drink in the Ice Bar to conclude your ice art experience.
All guests staying in the Igloo Hotel have use of the sauna facilities in the adjacent building, helping you to warm up and relax before breakfast. Afterwards you’ll be equipped with winter clothing and receive driving instructions for handling a Snowmobile, before heading out on the forest trails and across frozen lakes.
