WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

DAY 1:

Arrival to the Faroe Islands in the afternoon. Upon arrival, one of our representatives will escort you to your rental car and provide a map and directions to help you on your way.

You’ll stay for three nights in the village of Gjógv, a drive of just over one hour from the international airport. We’ll provide you with suggestions for stops and sights to enjoy en route to help you make the most of your holiday in the Faroe Islands.

You’ll drive from Vagar Island to Streymoy Island which is home to many highlights of the Faroe Islands including its capital city of Torshavn and the birdcliffs at Vestmanna. Your final stop for the day will be on the island of Eysturoy where you’ll settle into your cosy and comfortable guest house, Hotel Gjáargarður in the village of Gjógv.

The guest house is located close to Gjógv’s natural harbour. Its green turfed roof and wooden construction is typical of Faroese architecture. The light and modern rooms look out to the harbour and surrounding hills and include en suite facilities. The accommodation has a restaurant serving breakfast, light lunches and evening meals. The location of the guest house is ideal for exploring all ends of the Faroe Islands including Torshavn, just one hour’s drive away.

DAY 2:

Your itinerary is completely flexible meaning that you can choose where you’d like to visit each day. Your trip notes will contain inspiration for visitor attractions, hiking routes and sites of interest. There are many hikes you can enjoy in the immediate surroundings of Gjógv. The village takes its name from the natural gorge which you can climb to enjoy great views to sea and to the bird cliffs. The highest mountain of the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur, is close by offering an active day’s hike. You can also drive to the northern islands where further sightseeing and walks are possible. Or perhaps you may choose to explore the town of Torshavn and bring back some souvenirs from the Faroe Islands such as the handknitted jumpers and garments.

DAY 3:

Another day at leisure to enjoy the Faroe Islands. If you wish we can arrange a guided excursion for you including:

Boat trip to the birdcliffs and caves at Vestmanna (May to September)
Walking tour of Hvannhagi
RiB tour
Horse-back riding
Torshavn City Tour

DAY 4:

Transfer to the airport in time for your departing flight to Edinburgh.

About the Northern Lights:
The Northern Lights season starts at the end of August to the beginning of February. During this time it is possible to view the Northern Lights during dark, clear nights. We cannot guarantee that you will see the Aurora during your stay in the Faroe Islands. This weekend break is based in a small village where there is less light pollution than in the bigger city of Torshavn, therefore this will increase your chances of success. You can also drive to a darker location to see if your luck increases.
