Circular Group Tour of Iceland

Embark on an adventurous group tour around Iceland's ring road. This circular adventure takes in Iceland's many highlights including mountains, glaciers, volcanoes and lava fields. You'll join a group travelling with local guides to uncover some lesser known secrets and stories of Iceland. Between August and April, you'll have the chance to witness the magical Aurora Borealis in the night skies. During the summer months, enjoy the energising effect of long hours of daylight.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

DAY 1:

Arrival to Keflavik Airport. We’ll arrange a shuttle bus transfer to take you to your accommodation in Reykjavik. You’ll enjoy the rest of the day at leisure armed with our guide to Reykjavik to help you make the most of your stay in the world’s most northerly capital city. Dinner is not included, but we’ll recommend some local eateries.

DAY 2:

After a prompt start to the day, you’ll meet your guide at the hotel. Departing from Reykjavik, your journey begins as you pass the the town of Borgarnes before an opportunity to climb the Grabrok volcano crater. In the afternoon, you’ll visit a small fishing village to explore the natural history and seal museum. Heading north, you’ll encounter one of Iceland’s architectural gems at the turf church of Vi?myri which has been extensively restored and now offers a window into the past. You’ll continue north passing fjords until you reach the town of Akureyri where you’ll stay overnight.

DAY 3:

After breakfast, it’s time to explore the dramatic landscapes of Iceland’s wild north. After a stop at Akureyri’s botanical garden, you’ll enjoy a view over the Eyjafjordurfjord. Next stop is Godafoss - a wide-angled waterfall that hides stories of Iceland’s saga filled past. After marvelling at Godafoss, Lake Myvatn beckons - a white wonderland in winter and a haven for birdlife in summer. Whatever the season you travel, your final visit of the day will be sure to please at Myvatn Nature Baths. Just like the Blue Lagoon in the south, Myvatn is the lesser visited of the two, and therefore a more quiet and soothing experience as you relax in the warm geothermal waters.

DAY 4:

After breakfast you’ll head to the lava labyrinth at Dimmuborgir where you’ll learn about the local troll inhabitants. In the afternoon your next stop will be the hot spring area of Namaskard where you’ll witness bubbling mud pools and steaming solfataras. As you continue your journey eastwards, you may spot an Arctic fox or reindeer which live in this part of Iceland. Between June and August, the tour makes a visit to Dettifoss - Europe’s most powerful waterfall in the northern part of Vatnajokull National Park.

DAY 5:

After breakfast, your journey continues through fjord landscapes and tiny fishing villages before arriving to Vatnajokull - Europe’s largest glacier visible from much of the country. A highlight of your tour will be the jaw-dropping sight of Jokulsarlon - a glacial lagoon with floating icebergs that looks spectacular all year round. Spend the rest of the day at Europe’s largest national park with mountains and peaks to admire.

DAY 6:

Today’s drive will transport you through lava fields, past black sand beaches and mountainous cliffs, glaciers and waterfalls. You’ll enjoy a stroll on the black lava beach of Reynisfjara near to Vik. In the small village of Skogar you’ll witness the Skogafoss waterfall standing at 60 metres in height. Further west, you’ll stop at Eyjafjallajokull information Center where you’ll learn about the volcano and its infamous eruption. Your final stop of the day will be at Seljalandsfoss waterfall before your overnight stay at Icelandair Hotel Fludir.

DAY 7:

Today you’ll learn about the Icelandic horse and visit a geothermal greenhouse in Fridheimar. The journey continues on the famous Golden Circle route visiting Geysir and the geothermal fields as well as Strokkur, which erupts at 5-10 minute intervals. You’ll continue to Gulfoss, the “golden waterfalls” which tumble into the Hvita River. A visit to Thingvellir National Park completes the circular tour as you return to Reykjavik where you’ll be shown some highlights before your final evening at leisure. Dinner is not included in Reykjavik.

DAY 8:

After breakfast, your shuttle bus transfer will return you to Keflavik Airport in time for your departing flight.
