Family Outdoor Activity Holiday

Family Outdoor Activity Holiday in Southern Norway

Hidden in the mountains of southern Norway lies the Setesdal Valley. This lush Nordic paradise was carved by receding glaciers during the last ice age. It runs from the Hardanger mountains in the North carrying the river Otra all the way to the sea near Kristiansand, passing through many large lakes along the way. The river, forests and mountains provide a spectacular backdrop to this family activity holiday. Staying in forest cabins, your trip will immerse you into Norway's great natural beauty and provide life-long memories for your family.

Your direct flight departs from London Stansted at 20:00, arriving to Kristiansand at 23:00. On arrival, a transfer will take you directly to your accommodation in cosy cabins in the forest next to the River Otra. Settle in and have a good night's sleep ready for the adventures to follow.

After breakfast, it's time to explore the great outdoors that surrounds you. You'll join a total of five activities during your stay. The order of the itinerary may differ from this suggested one depending on weather conditions.

In the late morning, you'll head out with your guide on a relaxed hiking trip to explore the surrounding mountains around Evje and enjoy the wilderness of the lower Setesdal valley. You'll walk through tranquil forests and over gushing streams to eventually reach a spectacular view point which overlooks the beautiful fjord and river valley below.

You'll return to basecamp in the afternoon with free time to explore. A two course dinner awaits in the resort's restaurant lodge (canteen style). In the evening you can gather around the fire and enjoy reflecting on the day's adventures.

Today we'll arrange bike rental so you can explore the surrounds on two wheels. Cycle along quiet fjordside roads and bring a picnic to enjoy along the way. You can hire mountain bikes as well as BMX bikes which can be used on the nearby BMX track.

Today's adventures continue on the River Otra where you'll enjoy an exciting rafting session. There are two levels - white water rafting for the over 12s and a calmer rafting session for children from age 6 - 11. The River Otra is one of Norway's best locations for rafting and you'll see why when you experience the river with its contrasting sections of white water rapids and calm beauty. Your trip begins with a thorough safety briefing with your experienced and qualified guides. You'll also be given wetsuits and helmets. You'll learn all the techniques needed to deal with the water - whether on the white water rafting or the relaxed family session. Then the paddling begins. The younger children will enjoy the bouncy waves, surfing with the rafts and the family-friendly games led by the guides. For the white water rafting, the guides will lead your trip on an action packed journey down grade 3 and 4 rapids. You'll return to the basecamp full of stories and excitement.

Enjoy dinner and the rest of the day at leisure. The facilities at the basecamp include: volleyball, trampoline, basketball, table tennis, Bike Park, air hockey, 2 climbing (bouldering) walls, slacklines and minigolf. There are also many areas for wild swimming.

Today you'll explore Byglandsfjord by canoe (self-guided). Each canoe seats three people with plenty of room to bring a picnic. You can canoe to one of the small islands and enjoy some wild swimming. This is a non-guided activity and included in your stay.

Your final evening in Norway and a chance to catch up with new friends before bidding farewell.

Your final morning and a chance to try something new! Today you'll return to the river to try a session of stand up paddle boarding. You'll paddle on an inflatable board learning all the skills required to navigate easy stretches of moving water. There will be many laughs and plenty of games and chances to test out your balance on some easy rapids and wave trains.

In the afternoon it's time to bid farewell to Norway and return to the airport in time for your departing flight to London Stansted at 17:30 arriving at 19:30.
