ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival Day

Step into a magical winter wonderland in Swedish Lapland this Christmas, where carefully crafted adventures await in the unspoilt Arctic wilderness. Meet Father Christmas and his reindeer, and marvel at the mesmerising Northern Lights as they illuminate the winter sky from the mountain’s summit. You’ll also bond with new furry friends and their skilled mushers, eager to share their Arctic way of life.

Upon arrival in Kiruna, you’ll be greeted by your hosts and transferred to the remote and tranquil Mattarahkka Lodge. At the lodge, you’ll embrace the Arctic lifestyle, surrounded by breathtaking views and abundant wildlife.

Begin your first evening in Lapland with a relaxing soak in the hot tub, followed by time in the sauna, and a delicious meal featuring authentic local flavours at the lodge. What better way to experience the magic of the Northern Lights than from a rooftop hot tub with a panoramic view of the night sky? This evening is all about unwinding and indulging in regional cuisine. By the end of the night, you’ll feel refreshed and ready for a peaceful sleep after your day of travel.

Mattarahkka Lodge

In a remote location on the outskirts of Kiruna in Swedish Lapland lies the small family run Mattarahkka Lodge. It offers a warm and cosy stay with opportunities to see the Northern Lights and take part in several winter activities. The small and intimate lodge is perfect for couples or friends travelling together. With an inviting open-plan lounge with fireplace and comfortable chairs to relax, the lodge is a fantastic choice to enjoy an authentic and memorable arctic experience. The lodge has just 7 double rooms with en suite bathroom and small loft area which can accommodate a further single bed suitable for children. In true Scandinavian style, the lodge has a relaxation area with a sauna which is open every evening from 5pm, free for guests to use, as well as an outdoor jacuzzi which guests can use as an optional upgrade.

Day 2: Snowmobiling and Aurora Chase

Spend an exhilarating day exploring Lapland by snowmobile. Afterwards the adventure continues into the peaceful taiga forest, where you'll choose the perfect Christmas tree. After loading it onto the sled, you'll enjoy glögg and ginger cookies before heading back to the lodge for a cosy 2-course lunch made with local ingredients.

After receiving safety information and driving instructions, jump on the snowmobiles on a 5 hour safari, driving in pairs, taking you to specific places along snowy trails heading to the edge of the Arctic tundra where you have amazing views of Sweden’s most famous mountain range. Experience the stunning scenery, wildlife, local Sami culture and some of the area's hidden gems. A short break is taken on a frozen lake to brew some coffee over a fire and try your luck at some ice-fishing. The unique light and colours of the Arctic will add to the magic of this adventure. After the tour, you’ll be served lunch back at the lodge and have a chance to meet some reindeer in the corral.

Aurora Chase by Minivan from Mattarahkka Lodge

The evening begins around the campfire in the tipi tent, where you’ll be treated to a delicious BBQ meal. Afterwards you’ll be taken on an Aurora chase in a comfortable minivan, driving you to the best viewing points to experience the northern lights.

Day 3: Dogsledding

Prepare to meet some wonderful friends from Husky Home, who will guide you on an unforgettable dogsledding adventure. They are passionate about their lives as mushers in the Arctic, and as their guest, you’ll experience this unique way of life while sledding through the pristine Arctic wilderness. The journey offers breathtaking views and encounters with the region’s remarkable wildlife.

After your thrilling day of dogsledding, a delightful 3-course dinner at the lodge awaits, with flavours inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Swedish Lapland.

Dog-sledding as a Musher from Mattarahkka Lodge

Transfer to a local husky kennel for a dog-sledding experience. You will receive safety information and instructions on how to handle your very own husky team. Driving in pairs, the passenger will sit comfortably on the sled with reindeer skins for warmth, while the driver takes control and heads out through the sparkling frozen winter wonderland with old pine tree forests and frozen lakes gracing the landscape. Along the route you’ll get a chance to swap drivers and take a break enjoying the magnificent scenery. Upon returning to the kennels, say a big thank you and give the friendly dogs a cuddle.

Day 4: Christmas Tree Decorating, Ice Hotel Visit, and Swedish Christmas buffet

After breakfast, you'll gather to decorate the Christmas tree at the lodge. Once the tree is adorned, Santa and his reindeer will greet you in the traditional Sami tent, where he’ll hand out gifts to everyone who has been nice. You'll also enjoy delicious traditional Sami cuisine by the crackling fire.

Following lunch, you’ll visit the original ICEHOTEL. Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of this unique hotel, sculpted entirely from snow and ice. Explore ICEHOTEL 365, featuring art suites designed by acclaimed artists from around the globe. Don’t miss the chance to sip cocktails from ice glasses at the ice bar.

As the evening arrives, celebrate Christmas with family and friends by enjoying a traditional Swedish Christmas buffet, specially prepared by the Chef and his team for the occasion.

Visit the ICEHOTEL from Mattarahkka Lodge

Visit the magical ICEHOTEL, the very first and best of its kind. You’ll have time to explore this ice creation and enjoy a Swedish buffet lunch, then marvel at the different sculptures and pieces of art in the original version and the revolutionary ICEHOTEL 365.

Day 5: Departure Day

After breakfast, you'll take the transfer to Kiruna airport for your onward flight.
