ITINERARY

Arrive in Stockholm and make your way to the city centre hotel. Our team will advise you of the different transfer options and confirm the hotel arrangements when booking.

The tour has set arrival days on a Friday from June to August - you may wish to spend additional days in Stockholm either at the beginning or end of the tour, allowing you more time to explore this unique and beautiful city, often referred to as the ‘Venice of the North’

If you have time, start your hiking adventure through the world’s first national park to be located within a busy city. The park is a green oasis with cultural heritage and natural features - hike within the ancient forests and visit palaces. Alternatively, you can combine the hiking with a sightseeing tour on foot, walking the many quaint cobbled streets, passing historic buildings and churches across the city.

In the evening, choose from one of the many amazing restaurants for the perfect end to a special day.

You are provided with an information pack on the daily schedule and hiking routes, although on this self-guided trip, you can enjoy the day to day hiking at your own pace.

After breakfast, you will be met and transferred to Tyresta National Park - a protected area with trees dating back over 400 years. With sparkling lakes and a wealth of wildlife - deer roam freely throughout the park, hike the trails through the magical pine and birch forests and find a spot to enjoy the tranquility and wonderful nature while having some lunch. You then continue towards the pretty village of Dalaro, your first taste of the extensive archipelago. You may have time here to explore a little, although you will have more time tomorrow, before taking the bus the short distance to your overnight accommodation at Smadalaro.

Hiking distance today: 14-18 km.

Smadalaro Gard

Recently renovated to a high standard, Smadalaro Gard dates back to 1810 and is situated on the shore of Hemviken Bay in Stockholm’s southern archipelago, affording it wonderful views over the ocean from its restaurant terrace. The hotel has a Spa, where guests can use the facilities for a supplement payable locally.

This morning, take the bus back to Dalaro, and enjoy some time here exploring the village with its picturesque narrow streets of colourful wooden houses. Perhaps walk up to the viewpoint on Lotsberget for some beautiful views over the archipelago, before catching the small boat transfer from the harbour, heading out amongst the thousands of islands that make up the southern part of the Stockholm archipelago, stretching 80 km east of the city.

The first stop takes you to the island of Huvudskar (journey time - 1 hour). Due to its remote location, you’ll walk in an untouched wilderness under its magical light that captivates visitors. If you’re lucky you may see seals or sea eagles souring in the skies above. Explore this wonderful small island, then hop over to Kymmendo (boat transfer time - 45 minutes), and finally the last stop today on the busier island of Uto (another 15 minute boat journey), your base for the next three nights.

Hiking distance today: 10 km.

 Uto Vardhus

Just a few minutes from the village and harbour, Uto Vardhus Inn has a wonderful position perched high up with panoramic views over the islands in the archipelago. The rooms are either located in nearby historical buildings or in cosy wooden cabins. The Inn has a  delightful restaurant, one of the archipelago’s best!

Enjoy your first day on Uto island with its busier vibe and beautiful scenery. The use of bikes is included, so you can take to the saddle and cycle the length of the island, crossing over a bridge to the smaller island of Alo, the starting point for today’s hike. The route follows the rocky coast with endless sea views and impressive viewpoints along the way, taking you past a pretty white sandy beach and a local fish restaurant - a great choice for a lunch time stop. Returning back to the bikes, head back to Uto’s busy village for a well deserved rest. Please note, if you’d prefer not to cycle the route, there are taxis available, which can be booked on site.

Cycling distance: 22 km. Hiking distance: 10 km.

Take a boat trip over to Orno (journey time - 50 minutes), for the start of today’s hike along the island's western coast. Orno is the largest island in the southern archipelago and remains less discovered by tourism and more as a local community. The hiking route goes through a nature reserve, passing open landscapes and coastal scenery with stunning viewpoints, the perfect spot to take a break and admire the setting. You can either choose to take the local bus or walk all the way back to Orno Kyrka, the island’s small village.

Time permitting, there is also a hike on the Levassastigen heritage trail, with information boards explaining the cultural history of the island. Once ready, you can take the boat back to Uto island.

Hiking distance: 10-16 km.

Today you have the chance to visit Uto village, where you can see the windmill which was built in 1791 and enjoy one of Uto’s best views. Alternatively, you can visit the mine museum and learn about the history of this mining community. There is also time to explore the nature reserve along a beautiful coastal trail, which varies in length so you have the option of a longer hike or if you prefer, you can take an optional sea kayaking trip. During the hike you’ll pass sandy beaches perfect for sunbathing or enjoying a picnic lunch.

Afterwards, you board the local boat taking you from island to island on the way to Saltsjobaden, a stylish suburb of Stockholm (journey time 2.5 hours), here you’ll spend the night in a lovely 19th century hotel.

Hiking distance: 5-11 km

 Grand Hotel Saltsjobaden

Beautifully located with views over Baggensfjarden Bay, the hotel dates back to the end of the 19th century, when it was built by the prominent Swedish family ‘Wallenburg’, the aim was to capture the feeling of a Swedish Riviera. Since then, the hotel has been visited by royalty, and today it offers a very comfortable stay with good food and personal service, all set in beautiful grounds.

On your last full day, you can choose to either explore the area around the hotel with a wonderful mix of culture and nature, following a coastal path and passing grand villas along the way. Alternatively, you can visit Tattby Nature Reserve and enjoy a longer walk through woodlands, passing lakes all the way to Erstavik beach, where you can take a dip and enjoy the views.

Later in the afternoon, take the boat transfer all the way back to Stockholm city (journey time 90 minutes). The evening is free for you to carry on exploring the city at your leisure.

Hiking distance: 5-11 km
