ITINERARY

Find yourself in the heart of Finnish Lapland in the Sami village of Inari for the start of your winter adventure. Away from light pollution, Wilderness Hotel Juutua is in a perfect position to search the Northern Lights by night and enjoy winter adventures by day next to the frozen Lake Inari. Cosy lodging and hearty Lappish cuisine provide all the comfort you need for a relaxing break. 

On arrival you'll be kitted out in Arctic gear - a warm winter overall, boots and mitts. You'll need to bring additional thermal garments and gear to layer up! Our team will provide you with a kit list ahead of your travels.

Please be aware that the order of the itinerary on this proposal is indicative and the final order of your activities and excursions will be confirmed on arrival to the lodge based on local weather and snow conditions and Aurora activity.

Dining at Wilderness Hotel Juutua

Enjoy full board meals in the hotel's Restaurant Aanaar. The restaurant's philosophy is to "eat from the forest - drink from the nature". The menu tells the story of the northern wilderness through award-winning cuisine with an astounding view to the rapids of River Juutua. Ingredients that feature on the menu include lichen and the traditional Sami herbal plant Angelica, to reindeer and Lake Inari’s fish. Diets can be accommodated with advance warning. There's also a well-stocked bar serving a variety of wines, craft beers, soft drinks and Arctic-inspired cocktails. Your stay includes three course dinners daily, and one special Arctic culinary five course dinner.

Wilderness Hotel Juutua stands alongside the mighty River Juutua, and is also centrally located in Inari village – the home of Sami culture in Finland. A stay here gives you the chance to gain a deeper understanding of Europe’s only surviving indigenous culture and the possibility to experience the spirit of their Arctic area through activities on offer. The cosy interiors are full of traditional spirit and the 29 rooms offer en-suite bathrooms, radio, tv and telephone. The hotel has a lounge with fireplace. The hotel’s Restaurant Aanaar is famed for quality dishes made from pure ingredients that come directly from local reindeer herders, fishermen of the nearby harbour and other local producers. The dining room has a fine view to the lowest rapids of River Juutua.

Husky Safari and Farm Visit

Husky Safari and Farm Visit

Husky Safari will take you through lakes and forests and it is a ‘must do’ experience when visiting Lapland. You will be taught how to handle the sled before you head out for the husky safari, where the huskies will pull your sled through the beautiful winter scenery. Enjoy the excitement of the dogs before the start, and the serene silence once they get to do what they love - run in the snowy scenery. All the husky safaris run so that one guest is mushing and the other one is sitting in the sleigh - positions will be changed halfway.
Winter walk to Janiskoski Rapids

Winter walk to Janiskoski Rapids

You will be heading to the beautiful Janiskoski rapid which is one of the 10 rapids at Juutua river and the biggest one of them. There is around a 1km walk to the camp spot, but this will be suitable for all ages. During this trip you will learn about river Juutua which is an important part of Inari Sami Culture, and also learn interesting facts about the locals and their way of living. You will enjoy warm drinks and grilled sausages at a nice camp spot while listening to the relaxing sound of running water.
Aurora Camp

Aurora Camp

This evening take your seat in a comfortable sled, pulled by a snowmobile, and head off into the night in search of the mesmerising Northern Lights. Your destination is an Aurora camp on Lake Inari, well away from any artificial light pollution, with an open fire, plenty of hot drinks and the perfect viewing spot to enjoy the multitude of colours as they flame across the sky.

When it's time to leave, we'll arrange a shuttle transfer to Ivalo Airport in time for your departing flight.
