Arrive in Alta, the gateway to your Northern Lights adventure in Northern Norway. A transfer will take you from Alta Airport or the city centre to the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, one of the Arctic’s most unique stays.

Check in and store your luggage in the designated storage area, before exploring the incredible Igloo Hotel, rebuilt each winter entirely from snow and ice. Each season, the design changes, inspired by Arctic nature and local culture.

In the evening, enjoy a three-course dinner made with locally sourced ingredients in the cosy Lavvu Restaurant. Later, set out on your first Northern Lights experience, chasing the Aurora by snowmobile through the frozen wilderness.

Return to the Igloo Hotel for your unforgettable ‘sleeping on ice’ experience. Settle into your ice room and prepare for a night you’ll never forget, surrounded by silence, snow, and Arctic serenity.

Northern Lights Snowmobile Experience

Northern Lights Snowmobile Experience

Combine the excitement of driving a snowmobile through the Arctic evening whilst searching for the elusive Northern Lights. The guide will lead you through the wilderness of the Alta River valley up onto the inland plateau, where the absence of light pollution maximises your chance of viewing the aurora. There are many tales and myths about the Northern Lights that your guide will tell you about on your trip into the mountains. Norwegian tales say that the Aurora Borealis are believed to be the souls of old maids dancing in heaven and waving at people down below.
Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel

Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel

Unique, hand-crafted accommodation and stunning Arctic scenery meet at the world’s northernmost ice hotel in Alta. The hotel is tucked between the stunning Finnmark Plateau and Norway’s Arctic fjords suiting both adventure seekers and romantic explorers alike. Each winter the Igloo Hotel is carved from ice and snow and includes individually designed suites illuminated beautifully as well as ice rooms. Every year the rooms are designed from scratch with new, surprising themes arising each season. The temperature inside the Igloo Hotel is between -4 and -7 degrees requiring warm clothing when viewing and exploring the fantastic ice sculptures or having a drink at the ice bar. A sauna and shared shower facilities are provided as well as free WiFi and access to the warm restaurants at Arctic Wilderness Lodge nearby.

Start your day with a warming sauna before or after breakfast, the perfect way to prepare for another unforgettable day in the Arctic wilderness. Today, you’ll join one of the highlights of your Northern Norway adventure, a husky sledding excursion through snow-covered forests. Mush your own team of eager Alaskan huskies as you glide across frozen landscapes and take in the beauty of the north.

Afterwards, enjoy a light lunch back at the Lavvu Restaurant before transferring to Onga Lodge, set 26 kilometres from Alta. On arrival, check in to your chosen accommodation and spend some time getting to know the cosy lodge and its peaceful surroundings.

In the evening, sit down to a three-course dinner inspired by local ingredients and Nordic culinary traditions. Throughout your stay, meals are included, a delicious breakfast, two-course lunch, and three-course dinner. Guests may also choose to upgrade to a five-course dining experience for an extra touch of indulgence.

Between activities, take advantage of the wellness facilities at Onga Lodge. The wood-fired sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi provide the perfect place to relax and recharge. Although shared with other guests, access is limited to ensure a tranquil atmosphere.

As night falls, join a short Aurora walk led by your guide. Learn about the science and legends behind the Northern Lights, and receive tips on how to capture the perfect photo of this mesmerising Arctic display.

A Taste Of Dog Sledding

A Taste Of Dog Sledding

You’ll be picked up from one of the meeting points in central Alta and driven to the starting point of your adventure. Upon arrival, you'll be provided with warm clothing, including snowsuits, mittens, hats, and winter boots. Be sure to wear your own warm underwear, like wool or fleece, to stay cosy. A brief, clear training session will introduce you to the basics of driving a sled before you enter the dog park, where the friendly Alaskan huskies are eagerly waiting. Each dog has its own house with a name tag, and you’ll receive a card with the names of the dogs in your team. It’s up to you to prepare your dogs by finding the right harnesses and getting everything ready—don’t worry, assistance is always available if needed.

Once the dogs are ready, the adventure begins. The dogs are eager to go, and as the gate opens, you’ll head out into the forest, enjoying the quiet and the energy of the dogs. Your journey will take you through the forest, open landscapes, and along the Alta River, with a chance to ride on the river itself when the ice has melted. You’ll ride two by two on a sled, with the option to switch places halfway through. After your adventure, you’ll return to the dog kennel to help settle the dogs back into their houses. Finally, gather around the fire to enjoy something hot to drink and homemade pastries. The guides will happily share stories from their training, races, and how they care for the dogs.
