From Tromso airport or the city centre take the shuttle transfer which departs several times during the day, taking approximately 1 hour 15 minutes to Malangen Resort. On arrival check in to your accommodation - we have chosen the stylish Premium double rooms located in the main building with views overlooking the fjord and mountains beyond, but other accommodation types including apartments and cabins are also available at an extra charge.
Depending on your arrival time, you may have the day to explore the hotel and surroundings before enjoying a delicious 3-course evening meal in the hotel's restaurant.
After breakfast, embark on your first activity - ‘Dog Sledding Through the White Silence’. Meet the guide and get dressed in warm winter clothing, then walk the short distance to the kennels and meet the huskies, eagerly waiting to take you into the wilderness.
The afternoon is free for a well-deserved rest after the morning exertions. Later, enjoy the evening meal in the restaurant before preparing to venture outside in search of the aurora on a Northern Lights watch from the resort’s Camp Nikka, situated a 20 minutes walk away. Beforehand, at the hotel, the guide will give a briefing about this natural phenomenon and the current conditions before you set off to the basecamp. Camp Nikka is situated in a location with little cloud activity, enhancing the chances of seeing the light show.Instead of dog power, it is now your turn to head out through the snowy forests using cross-country skis, a much loved form of transportation for the Norwegian people and a fun way to explore.
After a relaxing afternoon and early evening dinner, head out once again using snowshoes, a great way to literally ‘walk on snow’ and into the forests above the resort seeking clear skies in search of the aurora. The remainder of the day is free to relax - perhaps walk to the husky kennels nearby to say farewell to the amazing dogs; warm up in the communal sauna available early in the morning or book a private 2 hour session, or even a private jacuzzi and sauna experience, all at an additional charge.
After dinner, head outside for your last chance in search of the dancing northern lights.
Begin a journey into Sami culture, the indigenous people of northernmost Europe. Step inside a lavvo (a traditional Sami tent) and listen to captivating tales about their way of life, history, and beliefs, illuminated by the warmth of the fire within. You'll have the chance to view traditional Sami artefacts and enjoy authentic Sami cuisine, freshly prepared over the fire. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to visit and feed the reindeer that graze near the lavvo, while learning about the age-old practices of reindeer herding. You can also try your hand at mastering the art of lasso throwing! To remember your experience, your guide will assist you in crafting your very own piece of art from reindeer antlers.
There are regular transfer times taking you back to Tromso airport or city centre for your onward journey. It is also possible to book a flexible transfer time at an additional charge.
