On arrival at Kajaani Airport you will be met and transferred to Arctic Giant Birdhouse Hotel for a 4 night stay on a full-board basis. Check in to your accommodation and enjoy the views from the cabin before the evening meal.
Arctic Giant Birdhouse Hotel

Arctic Giant Birdhouse Hotel

The Bird House Hotel invites you to roost in its collection of cabins and suites perched on the hillside. The views of the Taiga and Arctic Lakeland are far-ranging and can be enjoyed from the accommodation or through miles of nature trails. The onsite restaurant serves hearty meals in generous portions. Locally sourced ingredients are favoured such as fish, wild game and root vegetables, as well as berries, herbs and mushrooms that are gathered from the surrounding landscapes. Bird watching is of course a must along with exploring the many nature trails by foot or bike during the summer and snowshoes and Nordic skiing in the winter, with many seasonal activities possible from the doorstep.

After a delicious breakfast and free morning to relax at the hotel, and if you can tear yourself away from the stunning views, today you will embark on a Snowmobile Safari. You will receive warm winter clothing and after instructions and a safety briefing, you drive in pairs along the winter trails through the frozen forests in the Kainuu region. The distance travelled is between 20-30 km, depending on conditions. During the tour, stops are made to swap drivers and warm up around an open fire with hot drinks and snacks.

In the evening, enjoy the 3-course meal at the hotel’s Restaurant Makuhelmi.

A more relaxing way to travel through the winter wonderland of the frozen Kainuu forest - sit back and enjoy the quietness of Finnish nature from a comfortable sleigh ride pulled behind the guide's snowmobile on a short 5km tour. Stop on route to take memorable pictures and warm up with hot drinks and snacks.

Later, after your evening meal in the restaurant, you will head out on an Aurora Camp excursion. This night time trip is more than a northern lights experience, it is also a tasting experience - combining the excitement and anticipation of seeing the dancing aurora with trying local tasty treats by the open fire at the wilderness camp.

Your last winter activity is a guided snowshoe tour, taking you to the beautiful areas in the region, breathing in the fresh crisp air and enjoying winter landscapes and nature in the middle of nowhere! The tour lasts 2-3 hours with stops for hot drinks and snacks.

With the hotel and cabins perched high on the hill side, time here is often spent marvelling at the endless views of the forests and lakelands stretching out in the distance - the perfect setting to unwind in front of a fire and tuck in to your favourite book. And before you know it, the day has flown by.

Free time can also be spent with fun time on the sledding hill located next to the hotel. Slides and tubes are available free of charge. There are also several trails from the hotel, with snowshoes available to rent, and a chance to enjoy the wintery scenery at your own pace. In the evening, you have free access to the observation tower, as well as Kivesvaara hut, where you can light the fire and warm up in the cosy hut while waiting for the dancing lights to appear.
