Located in the wilderness area of Ostergotland county, three hours south west of Stockholm, you’ll find an unknown hidden gem – even among the Swedes!
If you wish to disconnect from everyday life, relax and unwind from your normal routine, and immerse yourself in pure nature, then our adventure break to a floating cabin with its own private sauna offers the perfect escape in the wilderness. The base for this five day trip is a charming small hotel. From here you’ll hike through untouched forests to a lake with your own private cabin for a couple of days – paddle in a canoe, take a dip from your veranda and warm up in the sauna while enjoying beautiful panoramic views.
Combine time in the cabin away from civilisation with the hospitality of the hotel, and with all your needs catered for throughout the stay you’ll enjoy a magical experience seeking adventure and tranquility.
From £899 per person (excluding flights)
This is based on two people sharing the accommodation for 4 nights (2 nights are spent in the cabin and 2 nights in the hotel), with all meals and equipment as described.
This roughly converts to 1,070 EUR | 1,160 USD
Departures: The arrival days for the package are flexible during the summer season, but the tour is set as 4 night’s as per the description. We highly recommend combining this tour with a city stay in Stockholm.
The adventure starts at Sommarhagen Hotel, near the town of Boxholm in central Ostergotland county. There are several ways you can get there - either by rental car from Stockholm or Gothenburg, the destination is equal distance between both cities, approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes drive. Our recommendation is by train from either city, changing trains on route and stopping at Boxholm where you’ll be met and transferred the short distance to the hotel. The transfer service is a small local provider and payment is made directly by credit card (approximately £5 one-way).
After breakfast, the adventure begins with a nature hike (2-4 hours) to your own exclusive hideaway retreat. You hike on trails and small footpaths through the forest and along the shoreline, the terrain is real wilderness and can be rocky in places, but the trail is all yours. With only 2 persons per square mile, it’s very unlikely you’ll encounter another walker along the route, taking you to your private Floating Cabin on the lake. You will be provided with a lunch pack to enjoy in a nice spot of your choosing.
Release the stress from everyday life - relax, listen to the bird song and just enjoy the surroundings with the lake and forest as your nearest neighbours. All around there is beautiful nature to take a walk in, perhaps you’ll pick blueberries, lingonberries or chantarelles for your dinner?
Enjoy your last morning at the cabin before hiking back on a different route along the lakeside and through the forest towards the hotel, taking time to stop and have lunch along the way. Back at the hotel, you can relax after your lakeside adventure and look forward to the evening meal in the hotel restaurant.
It is possible to enhance your wilderness adventure and book a Guided Wildlife Safari (Optional for an additional charge). The knowledgeable guide will pick you up in a special vehicle and take you out into the woods - there is a good chance you’ll meet “the king of the forest” the moose, fox, wild boar and maybe even a lynx. The hotel also has an outdoor hot tub and relaxation area with a wood-fired sauna (optional). This needs to be pre-booked for an additional supplement and is booked as a private experience for the whole evening from 20.30. They are secluded, so you can relax and enjoy the sunset and starry skies.
