Guided Cycling and Sightseeing Tour of the Baltic Countries

Explore the beautiful Baltics on a small group cycling tour, travelling through Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – visit the three capital cities with their Old Towns, experience the unique Curonian Spit and explore the largest and most beautiful Estonian island of Saaremaa.

There are so many wonderful places to see and attractions to visit along the journey, and what better way than cycling along the quiet roads offering breathtaking views through coastal towns, rural landscapes and National Parks, with guided city walking tours, entry to some museums and learning about the different cultures and traditions included.

The eleven day trip has a maximum group size of 16 and combines a mix of cycling every day with transportation by coach to maximise the distances across all three of the Baltic countries. The terrain is varied with a few gradual hills, but mostly the route is easy going, with cycling between 25 and 58 km each day with luggage transportation provided. And in case you’re worried about keeping up with the pace, it is also possible to upgrade to an e-bike, allowing you time to admire the scenery while catching your breath.

This is based on two people sharing a room for 10 nights in a 3-4 star hotel with breakfast, 3 evening meals, 1 picnic lunch and farewell dinner, bike rental with panniers, 2-hour guided city walks in Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn, mini-bus transfers, luggage transportation, ferry tickets, museum entry and information pack.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Departures: The tour operates on selected dates from June to September starting on Monday (first night). It is possible to upgrade to an e-bike and add extra evening meals at the hotels in Kaunas, Klaipeda, Sigulda and Saaremaa for a supplement.

ITINERARY

On arrival at Vilnius Airport, you will be met and transferred to the central hotel for an overnight stay on breakfast basis. There is a welcome meeting in the evening, where you’ll meet the guide and other guests, and find out information about the days ahead. If you arrive later in the day, the information will be left in your room.

Accommodation - all the hotels on this tour are a 3-4 star classification with breakfast included, and will be confirmed at the time of booking. They all have a private bathroom and are centrally located in the cities where applicable. The hotel in Vilnius will be the Comfort Hotel Lithuania or similar, within walking distance of the Old Town.n: 

After breakfast, you’ll have a 2 hour guided walking tour of Vilnius Old Town, learning about the history of this fascinating city. Afterwards, board a comfortable bus taking you to the outskirts of the city, where the cycling tour begins. The route takes you through scenic countryside dotted with lakes and gentle hills. Along the way, stop in Trakai, the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, where you can visit the 14th-century island castle on Lake Galve. In the afternoon, continue by bus to Kaunas, for an overnight stay at the Victoria Kaunas Hotel or similar.

Cycling distance: 25 km and bus travel 115 km.

Explore Kaunas by bike along a scenic trail that follows the Nemunas River, with a stop for a picnic lunch (included). The ride ends in Zapyskis, known for its unique 14th-century Gothic church. Then hop on the bus for a transfer to the Baltic coast, arriving in the modern seaside town of Klaipeda. Check-in to the hotel and relax, the Old Mill Hotel or similar is your base for two nights.

Cycling distance: 40 km and bus travel 230 km.

In the morning, transfer by bus to Nida, one of the most beautiful resorts in Lithuania. After spending time here sightseeing, you’ll head out on a long ride along the stunning Curonian Spit, famous for its amber and fine sandy beaches. Follow the seaside cycle route and enjoy the beautiful views of the Curonian Spit which separates the Baltic Sea from the Lagoon. The day finishes with a short ferry ride to Klaipeda Old Town (included). In the evening, dinner is included at the hotel.

Cycling distance: 58 km and bus or boat travel 50 km.

The morning starts with a cycle ride to Palanga through the Seaside National Park, Lithuania’s largest seaside resort renowned for its Botanical Garden and Amber Museum. Later, you’ll transfer by bus to Riga, Latvia’s capital, with a stop at the Hill of Crosses, an inspiring sight with thousands of crosses covering two small hills. Continue on to Riga, arriving in the evening. Check-in to the Wellton Riverside Spa Hotel or similar for a two night stay, with dinner included tonight.

Cycling distance: 32 km and bus travel 290 km.

After breakfast, meet the guide for a 2 hour tour of Riga Old Town, a medieval Hanseatic town famous for its Art Nouveau architecture. The afternoon is free for you to explore the city further, or there is an optional cycle ride to Jurmala, the largest beach resort in the Baltics, known for its long white sand beaches. It is also possible to cycle one-way and return by train (tickets not included).

Cycling distance (optional): 40-50 km.

Begin the morning with a transfer to Saulkrasti, and after exploring the Latvian Bicycle Museum, today’s bike ride takes you towards Sigulda, Latvia’s popular resort in the scenic Gauja River Valley. Cycle through the National Park, taking in the breathtaking views of the river valley, Gutmana Cave and Turaida Castle. Along the way, visit Krimulda Church (est. 1205), the oldest church in Latvia. On arrival in Sigulda, check in to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Cycling distance: 45 km and bus travel 50 km.

The morning starts with a transfer to Saaremaa, Estonia’s largest island, known for preserving the charm of traditional Estonia. With quiet, flat roads, Saaremaa offers an ideal rural landscape for cycling. Ride along scenic coastal roads to Angla Village, famous for its iconic windmills. Afterwards, transfer to Kuressaare, the island’s capital, where you’ll be staying for two nights at Johan Spa Hotel or similar. Dinner at the hotel is included tonight. 

Cycling distance: 38 km and bus travel 305 km.

Experience a scenic ride through the wild beauty of Saaremaa Island, finishing at the iconic Sorve Lighthouse. Historically, this peninsula held strategic military importance, overseeing the Irbe Strait and the Baltic route to Riga. After the cycle ride, transfer back to the hotel and enjoy an evening meal (not included). 

Cycling distance: 56 km and bus travel 50 km.

Today sees your last day cycling, as you head to the Kaali meteorite crater which is listed on the world’s largest crater list, and it’s the rarest natural wonder in Estonia. In the afternoon, transfer to Tallinn where you’ll check-in to the hotel Hestia Ilmarine or similar, followed by a 2-hour guided city tour of the Old Medieval Town. In the evening there is a farewell dinner in a local restaurant (included), to say goodbye to your fellow cyclists and guide.

Cycling distance: 28 km and bus travel 210 km.

After breakfast, take the transfer to Tallinn airport for your onward journey. It is possible to extend your stay in Tallinn or venture further afield in Estonia or perhaps take the boat to Helsinki to explore the Finnish capital.
