Centred around the wild landscapes and cultural heritage of the Tasiilaq region, this itinerary offers a rare opportunity to experience the ice-filled fjords, traditional villages, and vast open spaces of Greenland’s east coast.
Your adventure begins with a short stop in Iceland before flying onwards to Greenland, where you’ll explore the settlement of Kulusuk and travel to the island town of Tasiilaq. From walking tours and hikes through flower-filled valleys to boat trips past glaciers and abandoned wartime outposts, each day brings a new perspective on this unique Arctic world.

Arrive in Iceland’s lively capital, Reykjavik, where a shared transfer will take you from the airport to your centrally located hotel. Settle in and take some time to refresh before heading out to explore the city at your own pace.
With the afternoon and evening free, you might want to stroll along Laugavegur, the city’s main shopping street, or explore the harbour area. Reykjavik’s compact size means that many cultural sights, restaurants and cafés are within easy walking distance.
Make your way to Reykjavik’s domestic airport and check in one hour before your flight to Kulusuk in East Greenland. Upon arrival, you’ll be met at the airport by your guide for a walking tour of the small settlement. Your luggage will be transferred to nearby Hotel Kulusuk, where you’ll spend the night.
The afternoon is yours to explore the surrounding landscapes or consider joining an optional boat tour to Apusiaajik Glacier. This 1½-hour trip takes you through a maze of icebergs towards the face of the glacier on a small open boat—warm clothing is recommended. Dinner is served at the hotel in the evening.
After breakfast at Hotel Kulusuk, you’ll transfer to the harbour and board a boat for the scenic 30-minute journey to Tasiilaq. Upon arrival, a short transfer takes you to Hotel Angmagssalik, your base for the next three nights.
Spend the rest of the day getting to know Tasiilaq, the largest town in East Greenland. You might wish to explore the colourful houses, take in the dramatic coastal views, or simply enjoy the quiet Arctic atmosphere.
Set high above the colourful settlement of Tasiilaq, Hotel Angmagssalik commands sweeping views over the fjord and surrounding mountain peaks. This is one of the most established hotels in East Greenland, offering a comfortable base for travellers looking to experience the raw beauty of the region without compromising on comfort. Each room is simply furnished but warm and welcoming, with en suite bathrooms and modern essentials. The hotel’s standout feature is its hillside location, with floor-to-ceiling windows in the restaurant and lounge framing dramatic Arctic scenery at every turn.
After a day exploring the wilderness—whether hiking to the Valley of Flowers, joining a boat trip, or taking a scenic helicopter flight—guests can return to a hearty Greenlandic buffet in the restaurant, followed by drinks in the cosy bar or a quiet evening soaking in the views. With its peaceful atmosphere, helpful staff, and easy access to local excursions, Hotel Angmagssalik makes an ideal retreat for those seeking a remote but comfortable Arctic experience.
Today begins with a guided walking tour through Tasiilaq, starting at the Arctic Dream office. You’ll visit the nearby Skunk workshop where traditional handicrafts are made, followed by a stop at the town museum—housed in a former church from 1903. The walk continues past the harbour, where daily fishing life unfolds, and climbs towards the new church and scenic viewpoints over the town.
The route then leads out to Flower Valley, where Arctic flora thrives during summer. You’ll follow a winding trail past the town cemetery and through a landscape dotted with Arctic thyme, dandelions and the broad-leafed willow—Greenland’s national flower. A small waterfall awaits at the end of the valley, offering a peaceful spot to rest, drink fresh water and take in the views before returning to town.

Departing from Tasiilaq harbour, today’s full-day boat tour takes you deep into the dramatic fjord landscapes of East Greenland. After crossing King Oskar’s fjord, the boat continues through narrow waterways framed by towering peaks. A stop is made at Ikateq to explore the remnants of a former American World War II base, including rusted vehicles and a disused airstrip.
From here, the journey heads to Sermiligaaq fjord—aptly named ‘the beautiful glacier fjord’. This area is home to two active calving glaciers: Karale and Knud Rasmussen. As conditions allow, your skipper will take you close to the glacier fronts before landing ashore for a picnic lunch and hot drinks. There’s time for a short walk in this remote and breathtaking landscape before heading back to Tasiilaq in the afternoon.
