WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

Day 1:

Begin your Haida Gwaii adventure with a flight from Vancouver to Sandspit, where you will be met by hosts of remote Ocean House. A helicopter transfer to Peel Inlet, soars above the dramatic, rugged coast of Haida Gwaii, offering draw dropping views of the unique wilderness. Often cited as the ‘Galapagos of the North’, Haida Gwaii exudes a raw mystical beauty, a rich fauna and flora, as well as a vibrant First Nations culture.

Guests are greeted at Ocean House by a resident Cultural Ambassador, who will provide an orientation of the unique floating lodge with fellow guests before reaching your boutique room overlooking the wilderness.

Enjoy your first meal with fellow guests this evening. All meals at Ocean house Lodge are included, with house wine accompanying dinner. The dining room offers fresh, seasonal cuisine, including some of Canada’s freshest seafood, seasonal vegetables and expertly made desserts. A seasonal menu highlights the very best produce available and the chef’s creativity, focusing on truly fresh, healthy and local dishes.

Day 2:

Included guided adventures into the surrounding wilderness of Haida Gwaii highlight the rugged terrain, abundant wildlife, cedar forests and bountiful ocean, that enabled the Haida to survive for centuries in such a remote location.

Guided Forest Trek Hike with a knowledgeable, interpretive guide amongst the towering cedar rainforest canopy overhead. Peacefully pass over moss carpeted paths, breathe in the scent of fresh cedar and take in the pure silence during this forest trek. Learn about the various plants and flora unique to Haida Gwaii, and take in the quiet and stillness of this exceptional place.
West Coast Explorer Adventure The calm waters of Peel Inlet are the starting point for a ocean adventure by zodiac. Venture into the wild waters offering an awe-inspiring landscape backdrop that feature rare geological shorelines dotted and dense rain forest. Your guide will share stories and legends of the area and open your eyes to some of the hidden treasures of this incredible terrain. This uninhabited region is also home to some exceptionally remarkable wildlife and marine life.

Day 3:

Choose to make the most of this peaceful and magical location, choosing to be adventurous or relaxed as you wish. Explore the open water by kayak or stand-up paddle board, creating your very own Haida Gwaii adventure, get to know local artists in the studio, learning about the cultural significance of the remote island and experiencing modern Haida art or head to the spa, relaxing in the hot tub and sauna, or opt for pampering treatment.

For those who want to explore more of Haida Gwaii’s remote wilderness, the lodge offers a range of optional guided activities.

Helicopter Tour Soar above the diverse wilderness of Haida Gwaii’s west coast, taking in the lush green expanse of the rainforest, imposing cliffs, hidden coves, waves crashing along the wild coast and millenia old volcanic shores. This hour long adventure allows for incredible views of the ‘Galapagos of the north’.
Sgang Gwaay Tour At the edge of the world, overlooking the vast, open ocean the UNESCO World Heritage Site of SGang Gwaay, considered the best preserved of the ancient villages on Haida Gwaii. The village commemorates the living culture of the Haida people and their relationship to the land and sea. Century old Totem’s and housing remains provide authentic examples of a west coast First Nations village.
Alpine Adventure This spectacular float plane tour combines aerial highlights of stunning valleys, rarely-visited snow-capped peaks and spectacular coastal and mountain vistas. Watch cascading waterfalls plunge into glacier-fed lakes, wildlife foraging in isolated alpine meadows and more.

Day 4:

A final day at Ocean House allows for one last peaceful reflection. Enjoy a final breakfast of fresh west coast produce with fellow guests before making the journey back to southern British Columbia.
