SUGGESTED ITINERARY

WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

DAY 1:

Arrive in Kirkenes either by air or by ferry with the famous coastal steamer, the Hurtigruten. We’ll provide you with information and schedules for both options.

Time permitting you could enjoy your first Arctic adventure this afternoon. Why not enjoy an afternoon husky-sledding tour – with a pack of friendly huskies it’s the best way to explore the Arctic Tundra.

Overnight in the Thon Hotel in the centre of Kirkenes or in one of the Snow Hotel’s fabulous Gamme Cabins.

Staying at: Snowhotel Kirkenes

DAY 2:

Today is free to immerse yourself in as many or few wilderness adventures as you please. We suggest a morning of King Crab fishing with a local fisherman on the fjord. Your catch will be served for lunch. Each king crab has enough meat for a feast! Crab will never taste as good after this trip. In the afternoon you could choose between ice-fishing, snow shoeing or cross country skiing. Activities are not included in the package price so you can choose the ones that you’d like to enjoy during your stay.

Overnight at the Thon Hotel in Kirkenes or in a Gamme Cabin at the Snow Hotel.

DAY 3:

This morning why not enjoy a thrilling snowmobile tour into the snowy tundra? You will be taken a short distance to a Norwegian farmhouse where you will be kitted out in warm clothes and taught how to safely handle your snowmobile. Two passengers share a snowmobile with many opportunities to swap places and to take photos.

In the evening take a short transfer to the Snow Hotel. You’ll enjoy a welcome drink in the SnowBar on arrival. Dinner will be by the fire in the hotel’s cosy restaurant before your chance to meet the reindeer on the farm nearby.

After a tasty meal in the cosy restaurant enjoy a drink and when it’s time for bed, you’ll be warm and cosy inside your sleeping bag in the icy chamber.

DAY 4:

Relax in the Sauna before breakfast and return to Kirkenes or to Kirkenes Airport.

You have the option to extend your stay in Norway with extra nights at the Snow Hotel in one of their Gamme Cabins.

Alternatively you may wish to extend your stay in Kirkenes, Finland or board the Hurtigruten Coastal Express to Tromso and the South. We will be happy to tailor your trip to your requirements and travel dates.

I cannot thank Angela from magnetic north travel for the superb organisation of our trip to Kirkenes snowhotel. Magnetic north do not leave any stone unturned. They are always available and respond to emails promptly. I would highly recommend them. Kirkenes snowhotel was a fabulous once in a lifetime experience. The staff, food and the activities (although expensive) were more than a dream come true. I would definitely recommend going there. We were lucky enough to also see the northern lights right above our hotel - the trip couldn’t have been better.

Magnetic North Travel made this trip so easy for us and taking care of everything so we didnt need to worry about a thing. Customising our trip to our wants and price range as fantastic. Great time walking around Kirkenes and an awesome room looking over the water. Had booked in for the husky sledding which we were able to get the dogs ready and afterwards had an amazing home cooked meal. All finished off with a night in the snowhotel which was once in a lifetime experience!
