Trasti & Trine Boutique Hotel has a lovely rustic charm, set in the wilderness just 20 minutes from the arctic town of Alta. Guests are well cared for by their hosts, who take pride in offering a homely and friendly atmosphere, offering amazing traditional cuisine prepared by Johnny Trasti. The focus here is all about their huskies, with kennels on site accommodating eager Alaskan huskies, and offering several dog sledding experiences.

The Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel is built each year in the Arctic landscape 20km from the North Norwegian town of Alta. Everything is made from snow and ice - right down to the glasses in the bar. Artists finish off the magical atmosphere with creations of ice sculptures seen throughout the hotel.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

DAY 1:

Take a transfer from either Alta airport or Alta city centre to Trasti and Trine’s Boutique Hotel situated just a short distance away. The lodge is a cosy Nordic retreat set on the edge of woodland next to the Alta River, a truly serene spot in the wilderness. After a delicious country style dinner, why not take an optional ‘Northern Lights Hunt’ with an enthusiastic and experienced guide, driving you to the best places in search of the aurora.

DAY 2:

Wake up, enjoy breakfast and nature all around. Get ready for your first Arctic adventure – a full day dog sledding trip with your own pack of friendly, bouncy and, in our opinion, beautiful huskies. On this tour you are actively involved during the entire trip, from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. Having changed into warm winter clothes and listened to instructions about how to drive a dog sled, you will be shown how to harness your dogs. You will be given a list of the names of the dogs in your dog team, and then it’s time to get started.

When the team is ready, you’ll pull up the sled anchor and head out into the forest. It’s time to enjoy the dogs, weather and Arctic nature. You will drive in the forest, on the river and may be up in the mountains. A stop is made to enjoy a hot lunch around an open fire. There will be plenty of time to ask all the questions on your mind and your hosts also have a few stories to share with you. Safely back at the kennel, we remove the harnesses from the dogs and return them to their respective kennels. This is the perfect tour for those who enjoy being outdoors and are keen to try being a genuine musher for a day under a professional musher guide!

After the tour return to your lodge and enjoy a meal of locally sourced dishes created by renowned chef Johnny Trasti. Perhaps the lights will appear while you enjoy a warm drink on the veranda.

DAY 3:

After the previous day’s exertions, you have the day free to enjoy the arctic surrounds - kick back with a book in front of the fire or go for a walk in the snowy wilderness using the snowshoes available. For the adventure lovers, perhaps book another optional dog sledding experience on a shorter three hour trip or even an overnight husky adventure.

In the evening Johnny Trasti will once again prepare a delicious meal for you. Don’t forget to keep looking outside in case the aurora makes an appearance!

DAY 4:

After breakfast, you have some time before a short transfer takes you to the Sorrisniva Igloo hotel. Check-in at the Igloo hotel, where you can store your luggage in the storage area with small lockers provided. Spend time exploring the wonderful igloo hotel, created each season entirely from snow and ice based on different themes and nature of the surrounding area. In the evening enjoy a delicious 2-course meal using locally sourced ingredients in the Lavvu restaurant, perhaps adding an optional wine package. In the evening there are optional excursions available, why not take an exciting snowmobile trip, enjoy a Sami & Reindeer experience under the Northern Lights or relax in the jacuzzi and sauna. All available at an additional charge.

When you are ready, receive an introduction to ‘sleeping on ice’ for an unforgettable overnight experience in your igloo room.

DAY 5

Take an early morning sauna before breakfast, and depending on your arrangements, take the shared transfer back to Alta airport or the city centre. To extend this itinerary or combine it with a stay in Tromso, a 35 minute flight away, the North Cape or an overnight trip on the Hurtigruten Coastal Express, please contact us.

The trip is a guide only and can be tailor-made to your exact requirements. It is also possible to enjoy this trip without an overnight stay at the igloo hotel if you prefer.

From £1,170 per person (excluding flights). Price is based on two adults sharing a 1 bedroom cabin for 3 nights and 1 night in an Igloo Room at the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, full board; all transfers and dog-sledding adventure.
