Glass Villa Winter Adventure in Finnish Lapland

Wellness from wilderness is second nature at this remote corner of wintry paradise in Finnish Lapland. Surrounded by three national parks, Ruka is a secret getaway appealing to those seeking complete escape and untouched landscapes. In winter, the trees are laden with fresh snow and the fells and forests surround frozen lakes. And if that’s not enough, then you could be in for a night time treat with appearances of the Northern Lights. To fully immerse yourself in nature’s healing touch, this four night break features glass cabin accommodation at Iisakki Glass Village - a tiny resort of 10 cabins within touching distance of Finland’s wild beauty and winter adventures. The holiday can be tailored to your requirements.

Day 1

Touchdown at Kuusamo Airport in Finnish Lapland. You will be met by your driver, who will transfer you the short 30 minute journey to your home for the next three nights, Iisakki village. Set on the on the shores of the beautiful Lake Rukajarvi, surrounded by areas of stunning scenery, your glass cabin awaits. Boasting floor to ceiling windows and a glass roof, you truly feel part of this glorious setting. If you want a little privacy draw the curtains across the windows, lie back and enjoy the ever changing skies overhead. Dinner is served in the nearby restaurant.

Day 2

After a hearty Lappish breakfast, your first winter adventure awaits as you join a guided snowmobile safari to a reindeer farm. This 50km (30 mile) drive will transport you to beautiful Taiga forests and over ice-covered lakes, where eventually you will come across a traditional reindeer farm. Enjoy the atmosphere of the coral as you meet the herder and the reindeer before setting off for a slow reindeer ride in the nearby forest. After the sledding experience, you’ll have a chance to feed the reindeer and listen to stories of life in the Arctic whilst enjoying a cup of coffee and a sweet treat. Then you’ll drive your snowmobile back to the starting point and enjoy some free time before your evening wellness experience.

This evening, you’ll immerse yourself in the local Sauna tradition at Iisakki’s authentic lakeside wood-fired sauna before experiencing a wild food dinner. Your guide will bring to life the story of the Finnish sauna and its place in Finnish culture and join you in heating up the coals and teaching you about Finnish sauna traditions. Everyone wears bathing suits during this experience. Outside there’s a hot tub and an ice hole for hot and cold water immersion, depending on how brave you are feeling! During the sauna berry juice and sauna snacks are served as a prelude to your traditional Lappish buffet dinner with local delicacies, served in the atmospheric ‘Bear’s Cave’ forest restaurant. After dinner, don’t forget to look out for the Northern Lights as you make your way back to your glass villa.

Day 3

Today’s adventure takes you to a nearby husky farm, where you’ll join an exciting husky safari. You’ll drive your own team of dogs through the snow clad forest and enjoy getting to know each of the dogs on your team. After the safari, you’ll share a snack and a hot drink before heading back to your villa.

After some time to relax in the afternoon and dinner in the restaurant you’ll head outdoors at night in search of the magical Northern Lights by snow shoe. Enjoy the silence amongst the trees as you tread through the deep snow and admire the fell scenery.
