Days 2-3:

Our three night holiday at Onga Lodge includes some of the most popular winter activities in the Arctic region. The surrounding wilderness is the perfect setting to enjoy these authentic experiences. The following are included in your stay.

Guided Northern Lights Search by Snowshoes - After dinner, the guide takes you through the nearby dark forests using snowshoes, making your way towards a camp area where you’ll warm up by the fire and keep watch for the elusive aurora. Snowshoes have been used for generations to easily navigate on thick snow and in no time you’ll become an expert! (duration 2 hours)

Dog-sledding - First, you will transfer to the nearby Husky farm, where on arrival you are greeted by excitable huskies, eager to start the day’s activity. You will receive warm winter clothing and after safety instructions and an introduction to mushing your own dog-sled team you’ll head out on the prepared trails through the beautiful landscape. The sledding lasts about 1 hour with a stop made to change drivers, taking it in turns to mush and be a passenger in the sled. Once back at the kennels you can thank the dogs with lots of cuddles while the guide prepares the fire with hot beverages and snacks in the warm lavvo tent (duration 2 hours).

Days 2-3:

Guided Snowshoe Tour - Before the trip begins you’ll be provided with a small picnic backpack with snacks and hot beverages of your choice. The guide will take you on a winter experience through the pine forest towards a small outdoor camp where you’ll warm up by the open fire and learn all about the Arctic wildlife in the area, nature and way of life for local people (duration 2 hours).

Visit Alta Museum, Sorrisniva Ice Hotel and Alta town - This sightseeing trip takes you to Alta Museum with its World Heritage Rock Art Centre and different exhibitions. You’ll have time to explore in your own time before some time to visit the city of Alta itself where you can browse the craft shops and admire the Northern Lights Cathedral. You will then visit the magical Sorrisniva Ice Hotel, with information of its history in the making, the different art themes and how the Igloo hotel is built each year. During the tour you visit the main igloo gallery, the Ice Chapel, a selection of Igloo rooms and the amazing ice sculptures. After the tour you'll have time for a drink in the Ice Bar (duration 5.5 hours).

Day 4:

After breakfast, take the transfer back to Alta Airport for your onward flight.

It is possible to extend your stay to 4 nights, or we’ll be happy to put together a bespoke package depending on your requirements. It is also possible to add or change any of the activities if you wish, some may however carry a further charge. Other activities include a longer dog-sledding trip with lunch included, snowmobile safari and a Horse sleigh ride.

Please note, the Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon and so we cannot guarantee you will witness it during your trip. The Northern Lights season begins in September and ends during April. Temperatures, colours, snowfall and hours of darkness vary considerably during this period.
