Unique Cabin and Camp Stay

Luxury Aurora Retreat in Swedish Lapland

Swedish Lapland welcomes you to a natural wilderness blessed with sprawling forests, meandering rivers and mirrored lakes, all cloaked in a thick blanket of snow. Hidden in a secluded corner by the Råne River lies the enchanting and exclusive Arctic Retreat, merging into the surrounding nature and offering a luxurious log cabin stay. Spend time relaxing, enjoying the magical winter setting and laid-back living of the Retreat, with opportunities to embark on once in a lifetime Arctic activities such as dog-sledding, snowshoeing and of course, keeping watch for the elusive northern lights.

After embracing the Nordic way of life, you head to the Aurora Safari Camp. Nestled in the boreal forest next to the frozen Lake Degerselet, it offers beautiful vistas in all directions and an uninterrupted view of the night sky, making it perfect for aurora gazing. Inspired by an African bush-camp, but adapted for the Arctic environment, the Camp, along with the Arctic Retreat are the perfect destinations for friends and families to come together for a unique holiday to Swedish Lapland. Both locations can be booked exclusively by your group, making the experience even more special.

WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

Day 1:

After an hour’s transfer from Lulea airport, the first stop, the Arctic Retreat awaits. Nestled in the forest between pine trees heaving with snow and the frozen Råne River, a small collection of three panoramic log cabins provide a personal and exclusive stay for guests. For the next three days, guests may enjoy the warmth and luxury of their timber log cabin. A fireplace and floor to ceiling windows, ideal to marvel at the northern lights complete the hygge experience. Allow the warm waters of your private outdoor hot tub to ward off the night chill, as you search the skies for glimpses of the aurora. Prepare to be surrounded by the silent wilderness. Each evening, a divine 3-course meal will be served in the small and cosy log timber restaurant. A stay here includes all meals, use of the traditional sauna and is hosted by a team of local chefs, service staff and guides.

Day 2:

Start each day with a sumptuous breakfast, then the difficult decision of either kicking back with a book and enjoying the peaceful nature, or joining an arctic adventure in the snowy landscape. There are a wide array of optional daytime activities that can be pre-booked. Choose to join a snowmobile safari, drive your own dog-sled team, snowshoeing in the wilderness, horse riding or join a moose safari - plenty of options if you wish to get more active. As the limited daylight passes over the horizon and darkness once again covers the land, anticipation grows, waiting for the appearance of the elusive northern lights. The secluded location of the retreat means that viewings can be seen from the camp. But if you prefer to explore the night time wilderness, strap on a pair of snowshoes and let the local guide take you on a hunt for the aurora, taking you to higher ground in search of clear skies, and fingers crossed the dancing aurora.

Day 3:

Start the day with a visit to the wood-fired sauna and let this staple of Nordic life ease any aching muscles. The perfect accompaniment to the heat of the sauna is a dip in the frozen river, or you can lie in the snow, if you’re brave enough! A visit to Swedish Lapland provides plenty of opportunities to sample local customs. Visit a Sami family and learn about their life as reindeer herders and their culture. Perhaps try your hand at ice fishing or nordic skiing, the traditional method of getting around on the snowy trails. In the evening, relax in the comfort of your hot tub, enjoying your last night at Arctic Retreat waiting for the aurora to make an appearance and bid you farewell, for now!

Day 4:

It is time to leave your new found friends at Arctic Retreat as you make the short journey to the unique Aurora Safari Camp nearby. Arriving at the reception house on the lakes shore, you will meet your hosts and transfer the last part of the journey across the frozen lake by snowmobile sleigh, only adding to the feeling of being totally remote and in the heart of the wilderness. With just three Tipi Cabins and two Lapland Cone rooms, the Camp provides an intimate and very special experience for guests. The stay includes all meals, snacks and drinks and use of the sauna, fatbikes, kicksleds, snowshoes, nordic skis are all included, as well as winter clothing if needed. In the evening, enjoy a homemade 4-course dinner in the lounge and dining area with comfortable chairs and fireplace. Outside on the verandah guests can sit around the outdoor fire and relax with great views of the frozen lake, keeping watch for those dancing lights overhead.
