After breakfast a transfer will take you from the accommodation to Tyresö Palace, from where you will begin the cycling tour. First you have time to admire the 17th Century palace and the impressive waterside English gardens. The cycle trip will begin along the quiet country roads to Tyresta National Park. Here you can gaze at the sparkling forest lakes and the wildlife, which may include an elusive moose. Take a break from cycling and instead hike the trails through the forests of pine and birch, perhaps taking a dip in one of the many lakes. Take to the bikes again and cycle to the idyllic village of Dalaro, your first taste of Stockholm’s wonderful archipelago. Explore the picturesque narrow streets of colourful wooden houses, then continue to your accommodation for the evening at Smådalarö Gård a few kilometres from Dalarö.
Cycling distance: 34 km
Estimated cycling time: 3.5 hours.
After breakfast you continue your cycling trip back to Dalaro, with time to explore the village and a walk up to its beautiful viewpoint with extensive views across the archipelago. Time for some lunch, there is a lovely bakery in the village or a small supermarket to purchase some snacks. Afterwards, you hop on a boat heading out to the thousands of little islands around the southern archipelago. Stockholm archipelago was formed after the last Ice Age and stretches up to 80 km east of the city into Baltic waters. Your first stop takes you to the pretty island of Ornö, the largest of the islands in the southern region. Stretching 14km in length and 6km wide, you have the chance to explore the island and enjoy its unique nature with both woodland and open landscape, as well as visiting historical landmarks such as the wooden church dating from 1885 and a stop at the local Ornö museum to learn about local life over a coffee and slice of cake (included). You will then take the evening boat to the island of Utö, finishing the day at your accommodation, Utö Vardshus Inn, your base for two nights. Please note, tickets for the local boats can be bought on board.
Cycling distance: Not fixed, approximately 30km.
Today will be spent on Utö island where you are free to enjoy its charm and scenery. Perhaps cycle the length of the island and cross the bridge out to Ålö island where you will find sandy beaches and a charming fish restaurant. You can also opt to island hop to another close lying island called Nattaro, with amazing sandy beaches and great views. Utö also offers a wealth of other activities if you fancy having a break from the bike, with sea kayaking and hiking along the many trails an optional extra.
Cycling distance: Not fixed, approximately 30 km.
Today you have the choice of either ending your Stockholm adventure and returning home, spending more time in the city and exploring at your own pace or take an optional self-guided bicycle tour through Stockholm’s Royal National city park - the world’s first National Park to be located within a bustling city. The park is a green oasis combining cultural heritage and natural features. You can cycle through ancient forests, visit palaces and keep an eye out for animals such as foxes, badgers, mink and deer. The self-guided tour also takes you to the Royal island of Djurgården where you can choose to visit one of the museums and enjoy views of Stockholm from the Kaknäs tower. The 30th floor high observation deck offers you the best views of the city.
