ISFJORD RADIO HOTEL
REMOTE WILDERNESS OUTPOST
Absolute solitude meets rugged adventure at Isfjord Radio Hotel in the Arctic Ocean's isolated Svalbard archipelago, between mainland Norway and the North Pole. Built in 1933, this former radio station offers an unforgettable journey into the heart of the Arctic tundra.
Sleep Well
The hotel is located on the island of Spitsbergen, with no road access. Guests arrive by sled dog or snowmobile in winter, or by crossing the Arctic Ocean on boat safari in summer. The hotel consists of a main building and two separate houses containing further bedrooms. Choose from 22 modern, comfortable rooms, and enjoy a shared library and living room. Please note, the rooms do not have private bathrooms, there are separate washrooms and toilets available for guests.
Eat Well
A Nordic breakfast and Norwegian lunch is served in the dining room, followed by an Arctic dinner of pure, wild food sustainably hunted, fished, and foraged on the islands. Gourmet, seasonal, and creative menus can include seal, char, cod, reindeer, ptarmigan, and geese.
Play Well
Explore the islands' shorelines, mountains, and tundra on an exhilarating hike, watch out for Arctic skua, Arctic foxes, seals, whales, and walruses, and discover Barentsberg, Svalbard's last Russian town. There are 3,500 polar bears on Svalbard and they regularly visit the Radio Station, but along with the guided activities, you will have protection at all times.
Be Well
Take an Arctic Spa - dip yourself into the icy ocean, then run back to the warm Cookery Sauna. With wall-to-wall windows, this spacious sauna allows you to watch as the waves crash on the shore, whales and seals play in the cold waters, and fulmars fly overheard.
