Lakeside Nature Adventure in Sweden’s Untouched Wilderness

Located in the wilderness area of Ostergotland county, three hours south west of Stockholm, you’ll find an unknown hidden gem – even among the Swedes!

If you wish to disconnect from everyday life, relax and unwind from your normal routine, and immerse yourself in pure nature, then our adventure break to a floating cabin with its own private sauna offers the perfect escape in the wilderness. The base for this five day trip is a charming small hotel. From here you’ll hike through untouched forests to a lake with your own private cabin for a couple of days – paddle in a canoe, take a dip from your veranda and warm up in the sauna while enjoying beautiful panoramic views.

Combine time in the cabin away from civilisation with the hospitality of the hotel, and with all your needs catered for throughout the stay you’ll enjoy a magical experience seeking adventure and tranquility.

BOOK THIS TRIP

From £899 per person (excluding flights)

This is based on two people sharing the accommodation for 4 nights (2 nights are spent in the cabin and 2 nights in the hotel), with all meals and equipment as described.

This roughly converts to 1,070 EUR | 1,160 USD

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Departures: The arrival days for the package are flexible during the summer season, but the tour is set as 4 night’s as per the description. We highly recommend combining this tour with a city stay in Stockholm.

ITINERARY

The adventure starts at Sommarhagen Hotel, near the town of Boxholm in central Ostergotland county. There are several ways you can get there - either by rental car from Stockholm or Gothenburg, the destination is equal distance between both cities, approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes drive. Our recommendation is by train from either city, changing trains on route and stopping at Boxholm where you’ll be met and transferred the short distance to the hotel. The transfer service is a small local provider and payment is made directly by credit card (approximately £5 one-way).

On arrival in the late afternoon, you will be greeted by your hosts who will provide all the information you need for the days ahead. The base for your adventure is the hotel, where you’ll have a room for the whole duration of your stay. You then have time to relax before a 2-course dinner in the restaurant and overnight in the comfortable hotel accommodation.
Resort Hotel Sommarhagen

Resort Hotel Sommarhagen

In the middle of southern Ostergotland county, you’ll find Resort Hotel Sommargarden. The hotel provides a comfortable base with its 18 cosy rooms and restaurant offering homemade food using seasonal local ingredients. The renovated rooms are situated in both the old vicarage dating back to the 17th century, and in a more modern part of the hotel, all include a private bathroom and Wi-Fi.

The hotel is only available as part of an adventure package staying in one of three unique accommodations with a wilderness lake as the setting. There is a Floating Cabin with private sauna, a Floating Room and a Glass House – all accessible by hiking through the forest and with everything you need for a couple of days in the wilderness.

After breakfast, the adventure begins with a nature hike (2-4 hours) to your own exclusive hideaway retreat. You hike on trails and small footpaths through the forest and along the shoreline, the terrain is real wilderness and can be rocky in places, but the trail is all yours. With only 2 persons per square mile, it’s very unlikely you’ll encounter another walker along the route, taking you to your private Floating Cabin on the lake. You will be provided with a lunch pack to enjoy in a nice spot of your choosing.

The Floating Cabin is basic, but has all the creature comforts to make your 2-night stay a truly wonderful nature experience. With a large glass window you can enjoy the panoramic views from your bed. It also has a small kitchenette with a gas stove and refrigerator which is filled daily with food and drinks. There are lamps and electrical sockets that are powered by solar panels and you have a toilet and outdoor shower, if you don’t fancy swimming in the lake. There is also a separate sauna cabin just door with a bathing ladder down to the water for a refreshing dip. All the equipment you’ll need is on site, so you’ll only need a few belongings to take with you to the cabin.

Release the stress from everyday life - relax, listen to the bird song and just enjoy the surroundings with the lake and forest as your nearest neighbours. All around there is beautiful nature to take a walk in, perhaps you’ll pick blueberries, lingonberries or chantarelles for your dinner?

The facility has a canoe for you to use and explore the lake, with a private island in the middle. Have a paddle, or a swim and warm up in the sauna in the evening. Time here is special, it gives you the sense of freedom and being at one with nature. There is no mobile coverage in the forest, so leave your troubles behind and escape to an oasis where you can experience absolute tranquility. The lake and surrounding area is for guests only, so you will have them all to yourself! In the evening, cook dinner, relax on the veranda, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the view - you’ll wish you had longer to enjoy this simpler way of life.

Enjoy your last morning at the cabin before hiking back on a different route along the lakeside and through the forest towards the hotel, taking time to stop and have lunch along the way. Back at the hotel, you can relax after your lakeside adventure and look forward to the evening meal in the hotel restaurant.

It is possible to enhance your wilderness adventure and book a Guided Wildlife Safari (Optional for an additional charge). The knowledgeable guide will pick you up in a special vehicle and take you out into the woods - there is a good chance you’ll meet “the king of the forest” the moose, fox, wild boar and maybe even a lynx.

The hotel also has an outdoor hot tub and relaxation area with a wood-fired sauna (optional). This needs to be pre-booked for an additional supplement and is booked as a private experience for the whole evening from 20.30. They are secluded, so you can relax and enjoy the sunset and starry skies.
