On arrival at Tromsø airport make your way to the city centre hotel. There is a choice between the regular shuttle bus service or alternatively, take a taxi for the short journey directly to your hotel, or we can book a private transfer where you will be met on arrival and escorted to the city hotel.
In the evening enjoy exploring the city with our recommendations for places to visit and eat. And later try to catch your first glimpses of the Northern Lights in the dark skies
Depart into the Arctic night in search of the Northern Lights with your expert local guide. You'll travel by minibus in a group of no more than 14 guests and head to the spots where your guide predicts the lights will appear that night. They will check local weather forecasts, wind direction and cloud cover, and with luck find a place to watch the colourful show of light. On board the bus will be warm thermal suits for your use as well as Norwegian snacks and hot drinks. Your guide will help you to photograph the lights and send you pictures after the tour has finished. Tripods will be available for use. The tour duration is between 5-7 hours and you will return to Tromso no later than 2am.
When travelling to this region we highly recommend you take part in a dog-sledding safari. On arrival at the kennels you will meet the excitable huskies and learn how to mush your own dog sled team. Driving in pairs, you make stops along the trail to swap drivers and take photos, enjoying the breath-taking wilderness all around.
We have included three of the most popular activities during your stay in Tromsø. There are many others to choose from, both during the day-time and evening. Our Sales team will be happy to discuss the options available. Many clients also choose to spend one of their nights at a wilderness camp far from the bright city lights. Or perhaps a night sleeping on ice at the Tromsø Ice Domes. At either one you can try to spot the Aurora as well as join some activities such as reindeer sledding and snowmobiling.
Just 1.5 hours from Tromsø, discover a kennel nestled among majestic mountains and deep valleys, offering a true northern Norwegian Arctic experience. Here, eager Alaskan huskies await to take you on an unforgettable dog sledding adventure through the Arctic wilderness.
Warm winter suits, shoes, and mittens are provided to ensure your warmth during the 60-minute dog sledding journey. After a brief English explanation on handling the dogs and sleds, half the group will begin sledding while the other enjoys a hot indoor lunch. You'll drive in pairs, with one person mushing and the other riding, switching places along the way. The huskies love to run, and your participation in helping them up slopes adds to the fun and provides a light physical workout. After the first group finishes, the roles reverse.
This trip promises to bring a smile to your face. Back at camp, warm soup and drinks await in our cozy wooden hut, heated by an indoor bonfire. The team will gladly share insights into the dogs, the rewarding teamwork involved in training a pack, and the special bond between humans and dogs. The kennel also participates in famous long-distance races, so feel free to grab an extra coffee and hear real-life stories from a dog's best friend.
Today you’ll leave Tromsø, returning to the airport. Or extend your stay with additional nights and excursions or a stay elsewhere in Arctic Norway.
