Departure Days: Tours typically depart on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, though specific days may vary depending on the month. We advise booking early as spaces in the mountain huts are limited.
Trek Day 3 — Álftavatn to Emstrur continues the journey for a distance of approximately 15 km (9.5 mi). You will cross a stream and then trek across the vast black sand desert of Mælifellssandur, enjoying views of the distant glaciers. A major highlight is viewing the impressive, deep Markarfljótsgljúfur Canyon before reaching the green oasis of Botnar in Emstrur for your third night in a mountain hut.
Your final morning of hiking is a full day focused on sightseeing and activity. This day is primarily driving and stops, including visits to the iconic Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls and the black sand beach of Reynisfjara. The thrilling highlight is a guided glacier hike on Sólheimajökull (a short but intense activity, not a long-distance trek). The tour concludes in the evening with your transfer back to Reykjavik, where you can check back into your hotel and enjoy a celebratory dinner.
