ITINERARY

Pick up your rental car at Halifax Airport and set off along Nova Scotia’s picturesque Western Shore. Enjoy the scenic coastal drive, following winding roads to the iconic village of Peggy’s Cove, home to Canada’s most photographed lighthouse. After time to explore, continue your journey through historic seaside communities before arriving at Oak Island, steeped in legend and maritime history.

Spend the day discovering the charm of Lunenburg, a beautifully preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its colourful waterfront. Stroll through historic streets lined with bright wooden buildings, and learn about the legacy of the legendary schooner Bluenose II, a symbol of Nova Scotia's maritime heritage. On your way back to Oak Island, enjoy time at Mahone Bay’s picturesque coastline, perhaps exploring its quiet inlets by kayak.

Depart the South Shore and travel northeast to Truro, a town set on the banks of the Salmon River, where visitors gather to witness the powerful Bay of Fundy tides surge inland. Continue on through Amherst, crossing the impressive 12.9 km Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island. Arriving at Canada's smallest province, spend the rest of the day exploring Charlottetown, the birthplace of Canada. Take a stroll along Victoria Row, visit the Province House National Historic Site, and discover the city's strong connection to Anne of Green Gables. With a historic waterfront and lively arts scene, Charlottetown is also well known for its warm hospitality and legendary lobster dinners.

Afterwards, visit the picturesque beaches of Cavendish, wander through the rolling countryside, or step into literary history at the Green Gables Museum. Discover the red sandstone cliffs of PEI National Park, explore the charming fishing villages, and sample fresh seafood at a local eatery.

Discover the rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture of Charlottetown on this engaging 2-hour walking tour. Starting at Confederation Landing on the scenic waterfront, you'll journey through time as you stroll up Great George Street, where beautifully preserved Georgian and Gothic Revival architecture stand in contrast. Along the way, admire landmarks such as the Bishop’s Palace and the iconic Basilica Cathedral, a defining feature of the city’s skyline.

Continue to Province House, the birthplace of Confederation, before exploring the lively Victoria Row, known for its street performances, artisan shops, and farm-to-table restaurants. Pass by the Confederation Centre of the Arts, home to the world-famous Anne of Green Gables play, before taking in key sites like Confederation Court Mall, City Hall, and Rochford Square.

The tour then leads you to the striking Prince Edward Island government buildings, where you’ll visit the Beaconsfield Historic House and Government House, the residence of the Lieutenant Governor. Finally, enjoy a leisurely walk along the Victoria Boardwalk, passing notable sites such as the Culinary Institute of Canada and the Queen Charlotte Armoury, before concluding the tour back at Peakes Quay and Confederation Landing.

Enjoy a relaxed morning before driving to Wood Islands, where you board the ferry for the crossing back to Nova Scotia. As you sail across the Northumberland Strait, take in the sweeping sea views and watch for passing seabirds and marine life. Once ashore, continue your journey through the rolling countryside of Cape Breton Island, towards the town of Baddeck. Set on the shores of Bras d’Or Lake, Baddeck is a peaceful retreat and ideal base for exploring the island’s rugged beauty. Visit the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site to learn more about the life and work of the famous inventor who called this area home.

Today is yours to explore the dramatic natural beauty of Cape Breton. Drive the breathtaking Cabot Trail, widely regarded as one of North America’s most scenic routes, as it weaves past coastal cliffs, rolling highlands and charming fishing villages. Stop for short hikes in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, where sweeping ocean views accompany forested trails and wildlife such as moose and bald eagles are often seen. Discover local artisan workshops, linger at lookouts overlooking the Atlantic, and savour fresh seafood at one of the coastal villages. For a change of pace, consider a boat tour on Bras d’Or Lake or immerse yourself in the island’s rich traditions with a visit to a Mi’kmaq cultural heritage site, offering insight into the region’s enduring Indigenous culture.

Pause in the historic town of Antigonish or visit the rugged coastline of Guysborough along the way. Arriving in Halifax, take a stroll along the vibrant waterfront, where you’ll find lively pubs and plenty of excellent restaurant options for your evening meal.

Enjoy a full day at leisure to experience the character and coastal charm of Halifax, Nova Scotia’s capital city. Delve into Canada’s history by learning the stories of arrival and settlement at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, or wander through the beautifully restored Historic Properties, home to boutique shops and inviting cafés. For a deeper sense of the city’s past, visit the iconic Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, where centuries of history unfold alongside sweeping panoramic views over the harbour and city skyline.

Spend your final morning in Halifax at leisure before heading to the airport for your flight home. If time allows, visit one of the city’s excellent coffee shops or take a final stroll along the waterfront to soak in the last moments of your Atlantic Canada adventure.
