Ten-ee-ah Lodge

Wildlife Holiday at Ten-ee-ah Lodge BC

Untouched nature as far as the eye can see, Ten-ee-ah Lodge is the ideal setting to relax in the Canadian wilderness. Set up by a Shuswap native, a Canadian First Nations aboriginal, in the 1940s and built in a traditional log cabin style, the lodge offers premium access to Canadian wildlife, with options to explore Spout lake by kayak, hike the trails in search of caribou or bird watch from a peaceful setting in the hilly countryside. The three night stay can be tailored to meet your needs, allowing you the perfect break in this stunning area of British Columbia.

WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

DAY 1:

Arrive at the lodge for three nights of activity, coupled with relaxation. Originally built with access by wagon trail, the lodge is set on the shores of Spout Lake in the wilderness of British Columbia. Founded by a Shuswap native, Ten-ee-ah translates as ‘big animal’, in this instance one of Canada’s most famous inhabitants, the Moose. The Shuswap people, traditionally, were intimately connected with the natural world and continue to practice aspects of their way of life on the land. The lodge perfectly mirrors this ethos being the only building in the vast wilderness surrounding Spout Lake.

The rolling countryside that surrounds the lodge and lake is teeming with wildlife. Take time to find a quiet spot to bird watch, catching glimpses of hummingbirds, bald eagles or loons. When dusk falls the big animals of Cariboo Country emerge. See black bears roaming, moose drinking from the lake or lynx prowling for prey in the evening light.

Each night you will be treated to a three course dinner with fellow guests in the main lodge before grabbing your torch for a short walk back to your lodge to relax on your private terrace. The lodges generators are switched off at midnight, making it the perfect opportunity to gaze up at the blanket of stars in this remote setting.

DAY 2:

Awake to a delicious buffet breakfast served in the nearby main lodge, fuelling up for a day full of activities or simply relaxing in your beautiful surroundings.

Whilst at the lodge you will have free access to the canoes and kayaks, giving you the perfect chance to get out onto the open waters and relax in the middle of the lake away from it all.

Watch the sunset from your balcony before enjoying dinner in the main log cabin after an amazing day in the wilderness.

DAY 3:

Spend your morning at leisure, relaxing on your log-cabin’s private balcony with a coffee to hand. After breakfast the day is free for you to be as active as you wish.

Scenic Floatplane flights are available from the lodge’s own base, allowing soaring views of the forest and lake. Alternatively get a different view of the lake, heading out onto the water to fish for rainbow trout or simply explore your surroundings. Explore the shoreline where you may spot beavers, otters, moose or loons, before arriving on a private island for a remote picnic.

Relax this evening listening out for the call of the loon, which is the national symbol of Canada, representing the rugged wilderness.

DAY 4:

Enjoy your final hearty Canadian breakfast at the lodge before continuing your adventure across British Columbia. Ask us for ideas for road trips across Canada or longer stays at the lodge.

Optional activities:

Horseback Riding - Saddle up with experienced guides, taking you on a trip out for amazing views of Spout Lake, whatever the weather.

Fishing and boat trips - Fish for rainbow trout on Spout Lake or neighbouring Two Mile Lake and Pete’s lake. Rental equipment and permits available.
