Forest trails of Southern Finland

Southern Finland E-bike Explorer

Leave the city behind on this self-guided cycle tour, pedal your way along coastal paths, around shimmering lakes and through the ancient forests of Finland's many national parks, where tall pine trees reach out to the sky and water can be drunk fresh from the flowing rivers. Blend in the opportunity to sample a craft brewery, wander around artisan shops and enjoy delightful lunches in small cafes dotted along the route and you have a holiday that will touch all of your senses, bringing a sense of well being and a slower pace of life.

Day 1 (50km)

We recommend landing into Helsinki the day before your cycle tour begins. Arriving at your start point you will be provided with your eBike and GPS navigation aid, which will provide your route each day. Full instructions on their use will be provided prior to your departure. You will carry any necessary luggage for your 5 day trip in the saddle bags strapped to the back of your bike. Any extra luggage can be stored until your return. You will be transported to your start point (approx 20km west of Helsinki) and then it is time to start pedalling. Your route is of easy/moderate difficulty but you will find the odd steep hill but your eBike will help take the strain. Your GPS firstly takes you towards Nuuksio national park, where you can enjoy typically Finnish scenery, with cool lakes, green forests and rugged crags. Stop for lunch at the Haltia nature center, which highlights the finest points of all of Finland's National parks under one roof. From here the route follows small roads and park tracks, deep into the park. Take time to stop by a quiet lake and breath in the peace in quiet that surrounds you. Acommodation tonight will be in the Lohja region.

Day 2 (50km)

Each new day begins with a fine breakfast to fuel your morning in the saddle. Today you head southwards with the vast Lake Lohja for company on your right hand side. Cycle past green fields and apple tree orchards. Around the middle of the day you will arrive at Mustio Manor, one of the finest old manors in Finland. Originally built in the 1700’s, this wonderful building has been transformed into a beautiful hotel, surrounding by one of the biggest private parks in the country, with winding paths, romantic bridges, statues and exotic trees from around the world. Maybe stop here for a spot of lunch. Fully refreshed, continue onto Fiskars, where you will find a thriving handicrafts village and old ironworks. Wander around over 30 local artisan shops, where you will find creations in leather, silver, textiles, ceramics and more besides. Fiskars is also foodie heaven with many high quality restaurants and welcoming cafe’s. Don’t miss a visit to one of the many brewers in the area with spirits, beer and ciders all being produced locally. Overnight in the Fiskars region.

Day 3 (60km)

Today you push south and head to the coast. A gentle 20km ride will bring you to the idyllic coastal area of Raasepori. The route is particularly fun, as you many of the gravel roads are private and allow cycles only to pass. Spend time wandering the Barckens Udde, with its wonderful selection of 18-19th century buildings. Spend some rest full moments by one of the many beaches, and scrunch your toes in the sand as the waters lap against the shoreline. Choose a quant cafe for a delightful lunch or coffee, before continuing onto the village of Snappertuna, where you will find the impressive Raseborg castle. Overnight in Inkoo

Day 4 (50km)

Today we head away from the coast and cycle through fields and forests once more. Your GPS will provide a wide choice of places to stop and explore, from small cafes to interesting museums. Spend a little time off your bike and try a different mode of transport, rent a canoe or a SUP (Stand Up Paddle board) and take a short paddle through the surrounding waterways, ever on the lookout for the animals that live in this natural habitat. Guided or self guided tours are available. Overnight in the Kirkkonummi area

Day 5 (50km)

You final day on your trusty bike as you begin the the winding journey back into the suburbs, and finally the center of Helsinki. Savour the ride along the unique ‘Rantaraitti’ pathway, which runs only meters from the Baltic sea and is considered one of the best city cycle paths. Choose where to stop, take a swim, drink in the views and eat a little lunch, before returning your bike at the end of your cycle adventure.
