Classic Mountain Hikes Package

Guided Mountain Hikes in Abisko National Park

Abisko National Park is located in the heart of Swedish Lapland. With its fast-flowing river rushing through the beautiful Abiskodalen valley and framed all around by majestic mountain peaks, it offers breathtaking nature and is one of Sweden’s most popular areas for hiking.

The base for this trip is the Abisko Mountain Station from where there are extensive walking trails and access to many others nearby. Join this 6 day guided tour with wonderful hikes in and around the national park, taking you to some hidden gems and exploring paths less travelled.

Each day you’ll head out on the trails, learning about, discovering and enjoying the secrets of Abisko National Park and its surrounding area, leaving you with everlasting memories. Then, after long days and tired muscles you end the tour with an afternoon in the wood heated sauna and a well deserved wholesome dinner.

The daily hikes average 15 km long, so we recommend that you are in good physical shape and have previous hiking experience with a backpack. The small group tour ranges from 4 to 10 guests and has three set departures in the season, so be sure to book early as these trips are very popular.

Day 2:

The adventure starts with a short drive to Karkevagge, the starting point for today’s hike. You’ll hike into the spectacular valley, through a landscape created by the last ice age. Eventually you will reach the famous Trollsjon, the clearest lake in Sweden, where you can see all the way down to the bottom at 37 metres deep. Enjoy hiking in this area before heading back to Abisko Mountain Station for dinner from the daily menu.

Day 3:

After breakfast, pack your lunch pack from the breakfast selection and make your way to the chairlift nearby that will take you to the Aurora Sky Station, on the summit of Mount Nuolja, 900 metres above sea level. The journey by chairlift takes approximately 20 minutes, and once at the top you’ll follow a trail called “Glidaren” which leads down to Karsavagge valley. The trail offers amazing views of the Abisko valley and surrounding mountains, before making its way down to the mountain forest and continues to follow the river Abiskojokka all the way back to the accommodation.

Day 4:

Today’s hike takes you south along the eastern bank of Abiskojokka. After approximately 4 km you’ll reach the crossing for river Nissonjokk, where you’ll follow a ridge which forms the Nissonjokk canyon. Here you will stop for lunch, the guide making a fire to warm you up and make hot drinks. On the trail you pass the hill “Baddosdievva”, traditionally a place of sacrifice for the Sami people, where you’ll get a spectacular view of Lapporten mountain.

Day 5:

The last day of hiking starts again by taking the chairlift up Mount Nuolja, where beautiful views greet you in every direction. Continue on a different trail heading down towards Bjorkliden, some places can be a little steep, but the views are lovely over the river Kappasjokk as you descend. The hike continues following the river all the way to Bjorkliden, where transport will be waiting to take you back to Abisko.

Once back at the accommodation, the heated sauna will be waiting, the perfect cure to ease those aching and tired muscles. And if you’re feeling brave, a dip in the crystal clear, but freezing cold waters of Lake Tornetraski. The evening and tour ends with a three-course dinner included at restaurant Kungsleden, where you can relax and reminisce about the week's ventures.
