You’ll spend two nights at the stylish Lapland Hotel Bulevardi, conveniently located in the centre and ideal to explore the city on foot. Settle in and begin with a self-guided stroll through Esplanadi and the waterfront. Visit HAM Helsinki Art Museum to see the permanent Tove Jansson murals. Wander through the city following in the author’s footsteps. Head to the district of Katajanokka, the author’s childhood home. Walk along the street of Luotsikatu - named the most beautiful street in Helsinki. Look up and admire how the architecture inspired Tove’s work. The Katajanokka park was renamed after Tove Jansson in 2014 to honour the 100th birthday of the artist.

Its interiors are inspired by northern landscapes and materials, with many rooms featuring their own private sauna and touches like reindeer antlers and wool accents to evoke a Nordic feel, while some suites offer deep soaking tubs for a spa-like escape. The hotel’s restaurant, Kultá Kitchen & Bar, serves an award-winning breakfast and inventive menus rooted in northern flavours, and there are atmospheric spaces for meetings or events that extend the Lapland theme with warm, cosy design. After breakfast, enjoy time to explore Helsinki at your own pace continuing the journey following in the footsteps of Tove Jansson. Visit Uspenski Cathedral and the adjacent park where Tove played as a child. Visit the Design Museum which was once Tove’s school. Also not to be missed is the Moomin flagship store on Esplanadi.
In the afternoon, join a private food tour of Helsinki, followed by time to relax at Allas Seapool (optional). Another suggestion, if time allows, is to take a taxi to Porvoo and admire the Pellinki archipelago, where Tove Jansson and her partner spent many summers. Unfortunately it’s not possible to visit the island, but you can enjoy a taste of the landscapes and quiet, introspective world that influenced her Moomin stories.
