Bjornfjell Lodge

Idyllic Aurora Break at Bjornfjell Mountain Lodge

Bjornfjell Mountain Lodge epitomises Norwegian cabin culture - rooted deep in history, this cultural tradition saw farmers lodge in cabins while making the most of the surrounding nature by living off the land, tending to their livestock, picking wild berries and mushrooms and fishing the abundant lakes and rivers. This relaxed and authentic holiday gives you the perfect chance to experience this way of life. Stay in cosy lodge accommodation and enjoy the warm hospitality of Northern Norway, where you combine a tranquil and serene setting with a winter wonderland playground. Relax in front of a fire, sit in the window seat with a good book, play board games with family and friends and wait for the Norwegian Lights to appear. Then head outdoors and feel nature fuel your senses, taking part in some of the wonderful optional activities available from the lodge.

Choose to navigate the downhill ski slopes of the resort, whether it be on alpine skis, mountain sledding or snow-tubing or explore the snowy trails on snowshoes and Nordic skis, a slightly calmer way to enjoy the winter wilderness. Combining traditional cabin culture with modern comforts and winter sports, this family friendly holiday offers a unique adventure.

Day 2:

This is a great place to totally unwind and let the seconds tick by. Find a quiet spot and catch up with your favourite author, play some board games or head to the communal area of the lodge and make some new friends. Norwegian cabin culture places emphasis on being social and active with those you’re travelling with, whether it's inside or out in the beautiful nature.

Once the sun goes down be sure to look to the night sky to catch a glimpse of the dancing aurora. Stay cosy and warm, sitting in your window seat waiting for the lights to make an appearance.

Day 3:

Today, you have the opportunity to discover the winter wonderland at its best. The Lodge sits next to the Sarves Alta ski resort, home to varied downhill activities with slopes suitable for all levels. There is an activity centre here where you can hire all the equipment needed for time on the slopes, as well as funtime using sledges, snow tubes, snowshoes and fat bikes. If you wish to plan ahead, all these facilities can be pre-booked with one of our Sales team.

Taking advantage of the wilderness location, you may wish to head outdoors on a Polar Night Bonfire Trip. Accompanied by a guide you travel to the top of the mountain where the view takes your breath away and the only company here are the animals that call this land their home. You can help start a bonfire outside a cozy cabin and make a rustic meal over the fire, sitting on reindeer skins learning about mythical tales and stories. And if the sky is clear above there is a chance that the mystical Northern Lights may come out to play.

All excursions are optional and at an additional charge.

Day 4:

Time at Bjornfjell Mountain Lodge can be spent doing as little or as much as you like. Choose to relax by the fire and gaze out the windows at the idyllic winter surroundings. Or if you prefer to be more active, there is an opportunity to join a Dog-sledding safari at a nearby kennel. Transfers can be arranged, and full instructions are provided before taking to the snowy trails, the ever running huskies lapping up the fresh air and barking with excitement, stopping on route to swap drivers and have a well-deserved coffee break.

To help you unwind after spending time outside in the snowy conditions, the lodge also has a wellness area, where you can warm up using the sauna and outdoor jacuzzi with views over the surrounding nature. A 2 hour private session is available for an additional charge.

Day 5:

Your Norwegian cabin culture holiday comes to an end, with a transfer back to Alta airport for your flight home. Alternatively why not extend your time in the arctic and stay at the nearby Sorrisviva Ice hotel or spend time glamping in a lavvo at a husky farm. Get in touch with the team who will be happy to tailor your perfect winter holiday.
