Day 2:

Enjoy your first delicious breakfast in Norway before preparing for the day of adventures ahead. Alesund is spectacularly located on a chain of small islands, where fjords and mountains meet the ocean. This charming fishing town is one of the most beautiful in all of Norway and is a great starting point from which to explore the fjords and panoramic Sunnmøre Alps. Today spend your day breathing in the fresh sea air, sample some of the best coffee at one of the many coffee shops and taste the freshest seafood for miles. Choose to get out of town with a wildlife sea safari, learn about the art nouveau architecture of the town or get a different view of the town, peacefully kayaking along the waterways.

Day 3:

Today your road trip begins in earnest. Your destination is the village of Øye, a hidden spot that is the point of departure for mountain hikes to Slogen and Smørskredtindane, as well as the mossy paths of Norangsdalen. Your route passes by sheer mountainsides that rise from the deep fjord in the heartland of the Sunnmøre Alps and picturesque villages.

Check into the exquisite Hotel Union Øye for a two nights stay at the very edge of the beautiful norangsfjord. Ever since the 1850s, emperors, adventurous and mountaineers have sought out the sights along its shores, stopping to rest their heads at this very hotel

Drivetime: 56 KM / 2h 30 minutes

Staying at: Hotel Union Øye

Day 4:

Breath in the fresh mountain air after a good night's sleep. Today is free for you to be as adventurous or relaxed as you wish. Choose to explore the snow capped mountain peaks of the Sunnmore Alps, cycle the Norangsdalen valley, paddle along the peaceful waters of the fjord or even snorkel in nearby Lake Lyngstøyl. After an avalanche in 1908 and the water was blocked off, the water level gradually rose so high that several farms slowly but surely disappeared under water. For those looking for a real challenge, hike the peak of Slogen. From its summit, you can enjoy a stunning panorama over the entire region.

Day 5:

Following breakfast it is back to touring the quiet mountain roads with map in hand. Choose to take the short ferry ride back to the main road or explore the path less travelled. Choose to divert your journey to Loen, heading for the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Geirangerfjord. See the famous waterfalls: the Seven Sisters, The Suitor, and the Bridal Veil. Perched on mountain ledges high above the fjord, abandoned farms speak of another time. Mountains rise almost 1700 metres above the fjord, which is up to 260 metres deep. People have lived along the fjords and between the fjords and the mountains for thousands of years. In a harsh natural environment and a demanding climate they found a way to make a living based on fishing and agriculture. One of the clearest signs of old cultural history is the many abandoned farms along the Geirangerfjord.

Relax this evening following a day of sightseeing. Check in at Hotel Alexandra before making your way to the dining room to enjoy your included evening meal.

Drivetime: 75 KM / 1h 30 minutes

Day 6:

Take advantage of Loen’s fabulous location and head up to the mountain peak on the new Skylift cable car. The Loen Skylift transport people over 1,000m above the fjords to Mt. Hoven and offer spectacular panoramic views across the mountains and the Jostedalsbreen Glacier. The world’s steepest aerial ropeway takes passengers to the peak in five minutes, being the quickest and easiest way to explore the surrounding Norwegian landscape. Open all year, the Loen Skylift allows access to a network of hiking trails, like the popular Via Ferrata Loen route, which takes in the 120m long Gjølmunnebrua suspension bridge (the longest via ferrata bridge in Europe), accessible to all during the summer, and in the winter, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing can be enjoyed.

Day 7:

Your Norwegian mountain to fjord journey comes to an end today. Your final drive skirts the nordfjord for one final time before arriving on the coastal E39 route taking you to Alesund and your flight home.
