Itinerary:
Day one
Transfer from Kiruna or Gällivare to our guesthouse accommodation. Settle in to the guesthouse and gather round the fire in the evening.
Day two
Today we’ll visit an ecological park with our guide. We’ll go for a walk where we’ll see deep ravines, dramatic cliffs, lush untouched forests, wetlands and bubbling streams.
Day three
We’ll spend today with our guide collecting wild food to use in preparation for our Autumnal supper to enjoy together at the guesthouse. Among our harvest will be items including fresh-caught fish, wild mushrooms and berries. We’ll also gather fresh herbs and vegetables from the guest house’s organic garden.
Day four
We’ll take an early wildlife safari by bus to enjoy dawn breaking and to travel through areas where moose, reindeer and forest birds are often sighted. We’ll stop to eat breakfast and admire the stunning views. We’ll also visit a moose park where you’ll learn about these impressive creatures up close. In the afternoon, we’ll learn the traditional craft of felt-making with the guidance of an experienced felt-maker. You’ll bring home a felt souvenir of your own making.
Day five
Today we’ll bake bread together using a traditional wood-fired stone oven. We’ll use traditional and modern recipes to bake our own delicious bread using pure spring water and freshly milled flour.
Day six
This morning is at your own pace. If you like, you can go for a walk or cycle in the forests surrounding the village. A packed lunch can be provided. In the afternoon, we’ll leave for our overnight wilderness excursion. We’ll travel according to the group’s wishes and abilities. We can walk or cycle to the camp where we’ll find our rustic cabin awaiting us in the forest. The cabin is completely off-grid (no electricity or running water) and houses a wood-fired sauna which our guide will help us to get going. With a little luck, the Northern Lights will dance over the night sky.
Day seven
Our guide will return to greet us in the morning, and take us on a walk in the surrounding area of the camp. In the afternoon we’ll return to our guesthouse.
Day eight
Transfer to departure airport or train station in Kiruna or Gällivare.
